Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This square is where most people go to trade emerald. It is known as the black market for trading emeralds.
Colombia is the country that mines and produces the most emeralds for the global market. Our tour guide said that usually groups of 3 to 4 men wear big, bulky jackets so they had room for envelopes containing emeralds that they would buy and sell emeralds right there in the open after examining them.Very interesting to see how trade is done in this open market

Somewhat unremarkable square whose sole claim to fame is the presence of characters inextricably linked to the shady/shoddy emerald trade and the illegal marketing of these precious stones. It’s worth a stop, simply to see how these operators work, especially with tourists! Slight police presence didn'yy deter them. Caveat Emptor.

Plazoleta (small square) may sound charming, but it is a rather average place surrounded by dull businesslike buildings. The exception is the colonial structure of the prestigious del Rosario university at the Southwest side of the square.

In the middle of the plazoleta is a statue of Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada (1509 -1579), the Spanish founder of Bogota. During my visits there was a rather sizable book fair in tents. Didn't see any emerald traders.

A pretty unremarkable central plaza near the gold museum. It's okay, just a bit run down and in need of a face-lift. I passed several times along Avenida Jimenez and found no reason whatsoever to linger here.

Beside "museo del Oro" Transmilenio Station and El Rosario University, it is always the place for emerald traders to be buying and selling stones, also visited by skaters and lots of students. You can find souvenir shops, italian and local restaurants and coffee shops.

Nothing really special about this small plaza either. The base of the statue has been covered with graffiti. The buildings are ok but nothing amazing.
