Half day trip to Iglesia Basílica de Monserrat
Dec 2020 • Solo
If you are the type of person that has to pay for a tour then do it, but there is really no need to pay for anything more than a taxi or Uber to the cable car (teleférico) Near barrio Santa Fe. My Uber cost 8600 pesos from Sohn a G Zona G ticket for the trip up and down ( ida y vuelta) was 22 KCOP. There’s really no need to pay five or six times this much to go and do what you can do by yourself.

The walk uphill was a bit of a struggle but the view of the entire city was well worth it. You can see the airport, a couple of golf courses, the main traffic arteries, etc. etc. I left my apartment went over there in an Uber to the cable car, walked up to the top, took in the scenery and several photos and videos and was back in my apartment in less than three hours. Well worth your time and effort to take this little half of a half day tour.

Little church on the top of Monseratte
Jun 2019
This is a shrine that sits above Bogota. The shrine has been there since the 1600s.
You can visit the top of Monserrate by cable car.
People go up to Monserrate for the great views of Bogota and to visit the church.

Interesting church in a great location
Sep 2019
The small church is unique for being located on top of a mountain. The views from all sides are spectacular and you get to take a cable car to get to it!

Best view of the city
Dec 2019
The church offers great service to those who want to attend mass, but for those who just wants a great view for those pictures and selfies I would recommend taking pictures from here. It can be pretty hot up on the mountain so stay hydrated, there are lots of shops and restaurants that can offer you drinks and food.

Place of Catholic pilgrimage
Nov 2019
Hard to imagine that the top of Monserrate was once the place of a hermit, who sought peace and quietness to contemplate. The hermit was soon joined by other (Augustinian) monks and eventually a church was built, that was devastated in the 1917 earthquake.

The new neogothic style church was completed in 1925. Pilgrims carried up the bricks (at least one per person). The reason for pilgrims to visit, is the dedication of the church to the Fallen Christ. Roman Catholics believe to honor his suffering will help them to fulfill their wishes. On Sundays scores of believers make their way up to the church. Some walk up barefeet, others blindfolded etc. They believe the more they suffer, the more likely they will be heard.

Pretty church at Monserrate
Nov 2019
There is a church that you can attend daily mass. It is pretty and has a great view of the city. Just need to get up there before 4:30 PM that is when the place starts to close.
