This museum has 4 permanent galleries and a large space for temporary exhibitions. It includes detail of the French exploration of the Pacific. We entered the museum but they do not take credit cards nor foreign currency. Note that the tourist office on the water near the Casino Grocery Store does or did have a currency exchange.

Certainly worth a quick visit, most of the exhibits are small in nature. There are a few lights, some old china, ship accoutrements along special exhibits. The displays are interesting but not particularly enlightening.

Based on the reviews we decided to visit the museum. Caught the bus in from Anse Vata and it was very easy to find. Lots of interesting exhibits to wander around and provides a good historical context. Small entrance fee but would definitely recommend visiting.

We had a great morning here. There are translations for most signs and they give you a booklet for the temporary exhibition.

It took around an hour to survey the museum in all its glory. The building suggested it was a lot bigger that it really was! Lots of great artwork on display. Worth a visit.

We visited this on our last day, having left it until then because we thought it sounded boring. How wrong we were! It was a fascinating little museum, with lively exhibits and stories that brought the history of New Caledonia alight. Well recommended for families too, as it is set up with children in mind. We should have put it... More
