This is just a little park in the middle of the cit, rightext to Sule Pagoda. However, it is important because it is home to the Independence Monument, which commemorates end of British involvement if Burma. We were there this Independence Day - it was the 72nd - and in the evening the little park was alive with families nad friends enjoying the celebration and the evening. The park was all lit up, festooned with sparkly coloured lights in all the topiaried plants and trees, selllers of bric n brac and food hawkers. The old colonial buildings around the perimeter of the Square were all coloured washed with light and there was a true carnival atmosphere. Things are much less exciting during the day, when the space morphs back into it's workaday clothes of small shrubs, topiaried plants, a pond and a childrens playgound. It does provide an all important quietish place to sit in the hustle and bustle of Rangoon.

Nice park - right across the street from City Hall and Sule Pagoda. Independence Monument is in the center of the park. Good spot to sit and relax for awhile, after walking around central Yangon.

The park was located at center of Yangon, and many attraction beside. The park was not big, but had many unique buildings near. The park had independence monument, and many people enjoyed rest. There was good to rest on Yangon travel.

Tourists will enjoy spending some time travelling through this peaceful park area right in the middle of Myanmar. Also very popular with the locals

Next to the Sule pagoda, it is a nice spot when the temperature drops a bit in the afternoon, watch the world pass by, get a snack from some of the hundred foos stall, and relax in this cared area of Yangon.Avoid mornings and the hotter hours of the day as there isnt much shade around

The Maha Bandoola Garden is a lovely park located along the busy Maha Bandoola Street, just a short walk from the Sule Pagoda and behind the Yangon City Hall. It was around 4pm when I visited and though I read in the blogs that there is a small entrance fee to get inside I was surprised that we were able to enter for free just like the others.
The Independence Monument stands proudly inside the park. I saw local folks (mostly lovers) enjoying the cool atmosphere of the garden by just sitting on the grass. This must be a popular spot for families during weekends.

I didn't know there was a fee for entering this park because I didn't enter it. I just took shots of the garden and the Independence Monument from outside as I cross over from Sule Paya; and moved on to the City Hall and Supreme Court thereafter.
It's a peaceful park to behold even from the outside. I stayed at a nearby hotel, so I saw it a few times. There are plenty of blackmarket money changers loitering around the area if you are so inclined to change your US dollars to kyats with them.
The Ministry of Tourism office is nearby if you haven't grab a copy of the free Myanmar map.

So this time on my trip I actually went into the gardens rather than just viewing it from outside the perimeter.
There IS a 500 Kyat entrance fee though that one has to pay in order to get inside. Either way, once inside, it's a very relaxing place to be and go for a stroll and/or take some pictures. * If you stay at the May Shan Hotel, this garden is literally right outside your doorstep.
There are lots of pretty flower beds, colorful trees, and plenty of shade and benches to enjoy (although in the heat of even a morning it might not be everyone's cup of tea to sit in the heat).

Now the park is closed due to the military coup and political leaders detained since this February 2021. The calls for the immediate release of all detainees, especially state counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Myint, as well as for the democratization of the constitutional building to continue. Sule roundabouts, Pagodas, Markets and all government offices are shut down.

Maha Bandula Park is right around the corner of Sule Pagoda in the city center of Yangon. It is perfect to rest and relax from the busy street life. Many locals meet there, too. At nightfall the monument of independence is lit, which makes for beautiful pictures. There is a charming street food market right behind it.
