It's very relaxing and comfortable place. We were recommended to visit by afternoon to have a sunset landscape view. Yu will need to remove shoes and socks (the floor is quite hot after a sunny day) but it's fun. The view is remarkable, visitors and locals are very friendly, it is a must to spend an afternoon in this pagoda

Worth sticking around during sunset hour. We went there during their new year day. Full of locals but not too crowded.

It is the symbol of Yangon, Myanmar. It has an amazing history and located at center of Yangon. Don't miss to visit Shwedagon Pagoda. You should go there in the early morning or in late evening to be cool.

Dominating much of the skyline around the ancient city of Yangon is the huge golden temple complex of Shwedagon a short taxi ride from the city centre, which is viewed as being the holiest Buddhist site in Burma and dates back somewhere between 1000 - 2600 years - depending on which version of history you believe. The entire construction is... More

Well, Myanmar was my last destination among Southeast Asian countries and probably I've seen too much in Bangkok, Ayutaya or Angkor Wat. The size was big, but I wasn't so impressed at all for all this similar looking architecture especially when I was irritatedly asked for individual guided tour for certain amount of payment every corner of the pagoda. Even... More

Huge, intricate and interesting. A good experience to see the crowds during Thingyan but unpleasant having shoes off when it is so dirty, saw rats running around and felt a little uncomfortable. Pretty shrines and architecture lit up at night. Difficult to navigate without map and find your way back to entry point with large crowds so don't separate from... More

If you are ever in Yangon, you need to visit here. It has a entrance fee for tourists but it is well worth it. I recommend being here at around 5pm and then stay until after sunset. Its so amazing to see in the dark.

I was dragged to Shwedagon by friends. By then, I've seen more than my share of temples in my travel. I was super happy I went. This complex is amazing. Photo-ops are abundant, for both novice and pros. I would compare it to the Vatican for its extravagance and opulence. (The Vatican is more so.) The complex is huge with... More

Must remove shoes and socks when visiting, so best to avoid visiting during the heat of the day when the ground will be unbearably hot!

I visited Shwe Dagon for many time and all time of the day is good. I love to go there early morning, late night and sunset time. To wear proper dress, to show respect local customs : not pointing your legs toward pagoda and Buddha images are strongly recommendable. You can blend with local people easily. Sometime, you will meet... More
