At the very beginning of Tbilisi's affluent "Rustaveli Avenue", almost in front of the "Georgian National Museum", stands the former "House of Government". Built in the traditional Georgian architectural style, its monumental arcade - splendidly lit in the evenings - catches all passerby attention. It was built between 1933 and 1938, as a project of architects Viktor Kokorin and Giorgi Lezhava. Later on, around 1946 and 1953, the building was enlarged by architect Vladimer Nasaridge. The building was severely damaged during the 1991/1992 military coup and, after restoration, it started to house the "Parliament of Georgia" in 1997. It is normally not opened to visitors, but you can make nice pictures from the outside, principally in the evenings, with all its lights on. Enjoy!

The parliament of Georgia is located in the city center of Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia. The best way to get there depending on where you are is to get to the closest subway station and come out on Liberty Square. Tip for the first time travelers: Every subway station in Tbilisi has a service cabin where you can get a card to travel by subway.

We stopped off at the Parliament of Georgia while we were walking along Rustaveli Avenue towards the Old Town.
Parliament consists of an upper and lower building, both buildings were designed by Viktor Kokorin and Giorgi Lezhava. The lower building along Rustaveli Avenue is imposing with a striking frontage. We noticed a lot of protestors outside the building and many had set up an encampment. A major fight broke amongst the protestors and security staff whilst we were there so we decided to leave before the police intervened.

Georgia's Parliament building is the building of the last century, which to this day stands majestically on Rustaveli Avenue. Many political events of the country, as we recall, was in these walls. Everyone arrives in Tbilisi Guest necessarily come to Rustaveli Avenue and of course pass by this building is unlikely to succeed.

Parliament of Georgia is not using anymore. Out is worth visit if you are passing Rustavelli street.

Yet another bulky design from the soviet era. This is the house of parliament of the Georgian people, where people usually post their protests

the building is old and is beautiful, but you can't enter the building now and just can get photos and watch the building and some statues around.

First, one advice to fellow travelers. This massive edifice at about a half of the main Rustaveli Ave is the old Parliament of Georgia. It stopped working when the new, ultra modern glass dome one opened in Kutaisi, some 200 km west of Tbilisi in 2012.
Anyway, this one at Rustaveli reminds on old times, primary on 1989 protests against Soviets when many were killed, but regained their independence after. I cannot tell the purpose of this huge bldg occupying an entire block now, but it's probably some government offices.

Our hotel was literally across the street from this very important Tbilisi building. We really like the large Roman Columns, as well as the design. There was a few gatherings there as well, where some protesters took to the streets.

I am always impressed by the buildings built with the Russian style architecture. Big heavy building and looks so dark and gloomy. This building on Rustavely looks the same.
