Georgian National Museum
Jul 2021
Very well organized museum and the best one in Georgia, located at the start of Rustaveli Avenue, a few minute walking distance from liberty square. It is also next to the museum of modern art. The museum was 4 floors which displayed Georgian history, chinese art, animals, wars, ornaments, evolution etc.
It seemed only certain area was accesible for tourists. We can navigate the museum via lift or via stairs.
Few rooms had some lighting issues (spot light not working), photos when click becomes dull due to strong light from window. Rest assured, it was a great adventure visiting this museum and knowing the Georgian history. Ticket is arount 15 GEL

An excellent museum
Mar 2020
A hidden treasure at the beginning of Rustaveli Avenue, a walking distance from freedom/liberty square, a very convenient location.
The Georgian National Museum is the product of the unification of several museums and research centers that hosts various exhibitions, both temporary and permanent, from archaeological to modern art collections and cultural exhibits.
The Museum is 4 floors, each floor is divided into two sections, each section specializes in a specific subject/theme with interesting artifacts, to name a few: archaeological, Georgian heritage, soviet occupation, east Asia…etc.
Note: The elevator is not working, so be prepared to climb few stairs.

Small
Sep 2020 • Business
Nice displays, but relatively small considering the age of the Georgian culture. It seemed like it went from 2000 BC to some 18th century clothes and weapons, immediately to the Soviet occupation. I am sure it’s a work in progress and for the $3 dollar admission you can’t go wrong.

A Georgian treasure right at affluent Rustaveli Avenue!
Sep 2019
At the very beginning of Tbilisi's affluent Rustaveli Avenue and not far from "Freedom Square", a magnificent neoclassical building houses the "Georgian National Museum". The museum was created around 1920 and has an impressive permanent collection of more than 140,000 items representatives of Georgian, Oriental, Russian and European Arts. The old jewelery collection is absolutely awesome! Check also for its temporary exhibitions, with always something interesting going on! Enjoy!

the museum includes a few floors, don't miss the Soviet occupation section which is mesmerizing, and the Paleontology area.

A place to discover for museum lovers
May 2019
It is impossible to decribe the cultural treasures of Georgia - you have to see that and the best place for that is this museum. Some floors are better, some are leff fine, but altogether this is a marvel!

Swim in Georgia History
Mar 2020
A lot of ancient relics and demonstration how much this society was developed with amazing craftsmen and a huge and amazing collection of hand made relics in gold and silver and also amber. A good idea in one of the exhibitions about Georgia fauna . Loved the soviet occupation exhibition, its not a large room but it takes easily an hour if you want to get all the information that they have in there. Amazing. They have students, kids, family packages. The price is 15 GEL px only this National Georgian Museum but 20 GEL if a all day pass for all of them. Advise to go on the morning and use all day cause it´s worth it.

A Great Museum Let Down by Ticket Desk Staff
Sep 2019
Unusual entry experience. Behind the ticket desk were four people. One was busy on a computer, two were on their phones and the fourth was sullenly slouched behind a till (Let’s call her Slouchy). Slouchy was pleased to tell us that there was no change so we either had to have exact change or we couldn’t buy tickets. She sent us away to seek exact change. We went to the National Gallery where they had plenty of change and asked for the combo ticket (for the National Gallery and National Museum). Unfortunately, although they are advertised at the National Gallery ticket desk (where they have change), they only sell those tickets at the National Museum (where they have no change). We bought tickets for the National Gallery, looked around there and then headed back to the National Museum with exact change. There were now completely different people behind the ticket desk and apparently no problem with change. The young woman sitting upright behind the till, cheerfully took our exact entry fee and we were in!
The museum is excellent. The collections are well displayed and described. We started in the basement and worked our way up. I have to say that the ancient gold jewellery was probably the most amazing stuff but, I also enjoyed the folk costumes upstairs and the church related architectural elements and regalia were interesting. The integral Soviet Occupation Museum was eerie and haunting; a terrible story but, well-curated and tastefully handled with gravitas.
There seemed to be a couple different gift shops and a cafe, all with plenty of change. You would think they might help out the ticket desk with that. This museum definitely deserves a higher rating but, when the staff can't be bothered to ensure that visitors can get in, they get a low rating. Its a 5 for the museum and a 1 for the uncaring, slouchy person at the till who doesn’t care if you visit or not.

The Georgian artifacts in this museum are quite interesting though few. It's a great place to visit while in the city and it's in a convenient location.
