Considering the relatively small Jewish community in Tbilisi this well maintained synagogue is quite large. It is well worth a visit whilst in the old town seeing the many sights Tbilisi has to offer the tourist.

A place where I find peace and armony. Far from the madding crowd. Full of historical and architectural meaning.

The rabbi was not too friendly, even became angry when I mixed words between languages and say Georgian "ki" instead of Spanish "si", but the visit was okay. He told us some very interesting facts from the history.

A must see for Jewish travelers. It's amazing that in this small country with a small Jewish population, this beautifully maintained synagogue continues to function. The rabbi of this sephardic congregation is warm and inviting to all visitors.

This impressive synagogue was built between 1895 and 1903 by Jews who moved to the area from Ahlzelethe in the 19th century. The synagogue was taken from the Jews by the Soviet authorities in 1923. Only at the end of the 20th century was the...More
