    Best museum ever!
It could be the richest museum I have ever been to. It has all kinds of antiques from the daily life of the pharaohs, toys, music, jewelry, cloths, coffins, and even food. It has a lot of complete intact items, not broken pieces like other civilizations. The museum needs serious attention in terms of cleaning the dust and improving the lights. I would recommend getting a tour guide sice most of the items have no descriptions.

    an exceptional museum
The Egyptian museum is beautiful, it deserves to be visited at least once in your life. Inside it is possible to admire priceless works, known throughout the world, and present in all Egyptian history books, such as the Narmer Tablet, the statue of the crouching Scribe, the statue of the Egyptian couple "Prince Rahotep and his wife Nofret", etc... The highlight of the collection is certainly the treasure of Tutankhamun, here it is possible to admire his famous funerary mask and his sarcophagi, all forged in gold and precious stones, one remains enchanted in front of such beauty, the objects are so well preserved and splendid, it's a shame you can't photograph them in this room, but it is possible to do so in the nearby one, where other treasures of this young pharaoh are on display, such as the two precious chairs, the canopic jars, and several divine statues.

    Wonderful experience
This amazing place, soon to be overtaken by the new Egyptian museum, was one of the highlights of things we did in Cairo. The collections are vast and the items related to King Tut are truly amazing. It was impossible to see and experience everything. It is a wonderful introduction to Egyptian history and the exhibits are a wonder to behold. Going with a guide or at least an audio tour makes the history come alive.

    This is definitely a must-visit
This is definitely a must-visit, but be aware that they are in the process of moving some items to the Grand Egyptian Museum so I don’t know how long this will be a “must-visit”. In terms of my personal experience on 23rd Feb, I had a great time as there was a lot to see. Some reviewers recommend a guide and others don’t. I am in the middle. I went without the intention of having a guide, but when I got there I met Saleh El Deeb (you can find him on Facebook) after I paid my entry ticket (or he met me) and I ended up with him as my tour guide. I negotiated the price with him for 1 hour. He was very informative and told me about the highlights in the museum. He was also quite funny. I should note that there are descriptions on the items so you could visit without a guide (but not every single item has this). After my guided tour was done, I ended up going around by myself to see items that were not previously pointed out to me. But I also went back to the items Saleh pointed out with the knowledge I had acquired. I personally liked this. If you decide to go with a guide, you can wait until you get there and one will come to you, or book with Saleh (his number is +20 155 404 4950). N.B. entry to the museum was EGP 450.

    A Must See, for now
This venerable institution has been around for over a century and it shows. The displays are a mix of modern and very old fashioned. It may not see another 100 years once the GEM is fully open, but until then it’s the only place to see some of King Tut’s treasures. There are also wonderful statues and other artifacts to see so it is well worth a visit.

Gives you some insight into Egyptian history
The museum has more charm after the new museum. Be sure to buy your ticket online because that saves a lot of time. Large groups of people enter the museum to see Tutankhamun's mask. Please note that this mask and the rest of his belongings are not allowed to be photographed. There are a lot of things in the museum. In fact, so much that you really have to be some kind of archaeologist or historian to view everything with interest. The sarcophagi and a number of mummies are beautifully displayed. Also lots of chains and other things. I'm very honest if I've seen an urn 5 times then I've seen the 6th and the rest as well. That actually applies to everything. All in all, this museum is worth visiting to get a complete picture of Egyptian history.

    Great!
Absolutely loved this museum! So much history and great artifacts. I had a guide which helped me appreciate what I was seeing even more. Easy to navigate and gain entrance. King Tut exhibit was nice as well.

The best things to do in Cairo
The museum is incredible!!! There are many pieces, the vast majority of which are well preserved. I found it a little disorganized (especially the entrance and exit). But it is certainly the main tour in Cairo. The pyramids are also incredible, but there are not many details to observe. Unlike the museum pieces, which have incredible details.

    Fantastic needed more time!
Definitely a bucket list ticked off! Such amazing artefacts to see up close. We didn't get a guide and just walked around ourself which was fine, it meant we could wander at our leisure and see the bits we wanted Not everything has an enormous amount of information about it but there is enough. Some areas could be updated to make them more engaging and accessible so good if you have prior knowledge. The cafes were OK but not fantastic quality, expensive. The staff are very nice all around the museum and although some parts are busy it is big enough that it does not feel crowded. We spent about 2 hours here and unfortunately ran out of time, I could have easily spent 3 - 4. There is so much to see what an incredible place

    So Much to See Here
Until they fully open the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) this place has all of the best artifacts. King Tut pieces (except for this mummy that is still in the Valley of the Kings), mummies, statues, they're all here. The price is reasonable and the place is huge. It could take several days to truly see everything. We had only a day but with our local guide, we felt like we saw what we wanted. Recommended for anyone visiting Egypt and a great pairing with a Pyramids tour.

The Museum is absolutely wonderful and rich in history and antiquities. A must visit in Cairo! This old museum is actually the perfect way to begin your trip in Egypt because it fills you with knowledge about ancient history before you visit the pyramids, monuments and temples. Museum tickets can be purchased there directly at the ticket counter, but by card only. They don't accept payments in cash. I definitely recommend taking a guide. You can find a guide outside the ticket office at museum itself. You can negotiate with them, or book a tour with companies like Emo Tours or Rimo Tours too. Although the museum is famous for Tutankhamun's exhibition which is definitely exciting to see, I also fall in love with the tales of Queen Hatshepsut too. Finding the right guide is crucial here, as it is extremely crowded. Don't rush through the museum, find a guide who will show you around comfortably in your speed. Most guides tend to really rush you because you've booked them by the hour. So be clear about your pace with them. Also I recommend visiting this old museum before you visit the new Grand Egyptian Museum.

During our recent trip to Cairo, we had the incredible opportunity to visit the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, commonly known as the Egyptian Museum. As a family, we were excited to explore the rich history and culture of ancient Egypt, and the museum did not disappoint!

Arrival and First Impressions
Upon arriving at the museum, we were struck by the grandeur of the building itself. The architecture is a beautiful blend of neoclassical and modern design, setting the stage for the treasures housed within. As we entered, we were greeted by friendly staff who provided us with maps and information about the exhibits. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement from fellow visitors, many of whom were also families eager to learn about ancient Egypt.

The Exhibits
The museum boasts an extensive collection of over 120,000 artifacts, making it one of the largest collections of Egyptian antiquities in the world. We started our journey in the Tutankhamun Gallery, which was a highlight for all of us. Seeing the golden mask and other treasures from the young pharaoh's tomb was truly awe-inspiring. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were remarkable, and it sparked many questions from my kids about ancient Egyptian beliefs and customs.

Next, we wandered through various halls showcasing sculptures, mummies, and everyday items used by ancient Egyptians. The Royal Mummy Room was particularly captivating, offering a glimpse into the funerary practices of the time. It was both fascinating and a bit eerie to see the mummies preserved for thousands of years. Our kids were especially intrigued by the story behind each mummy and the significance of the rituals.

Educational Experience
The museum is well-organized, with informative plaques in both Arabic and English, making it accessible to a diverse audience. As a family, we found ourselves engaged in discussions about the significance of different artifacts, the evolution of ancient Egyptian society, and the influence of their culture on the modern world. The museum also offered guided tours, which we considered for a deeper understanding of the exhibits.

Interactive Elements
One of the aspects we appreciated was the inclusion of interactive displays and educational programs for children. These hands-on activities allowed our kids to learn through play, making the experience more enjoyable and memorable. They could dress up as ancient Egyptians and participate in mini-excavation activities, which kept their enthusiasm high throughout our visit.

Conclusion
Overall, our visit to the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities was a highlight of our trip to Cairo. The vast array of artifacts, combined with the museum's educational approach, made it a perfect family-friendly experience. It not only deepened our appreciation for ancient Egyptian culture but also sparked curiosity in our children about history and archaeology. We left the museum with a sense of wonder and a desire to learn more about the ancient world.

If you're ever in Cairo, I highly recommend making the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities a priority on your itinerary. It's a treasure trove of history that is sure to leave a lasting impression on visitors of all ages!

the rating would have been even higher except that the museum is pitifully maintained, floor broken, paint protection sheets dangling around, dust everywhere, some objects that don't even bear the tag with the description of what you're admiring. Overlooking the cleanliness, general organization and order what to say, a show. For enthusiasts I recommend a guided tour because the museum is huge, for mere mortals, who perhaps have little time, I recommend heading upstairs to see the hall with the treasures of tutankhamun and its funerary equipment and the funerary masks of Tuya and Yuya.
Attention Attention!! Attempting to book online E-tikets the site refers you to the purchase of electronic tickets but for the NMEC (museum of Egyptian civilization). I don't know if it's a bug or what but be careful!
Dispassionate advice: if you can go to the museum after 11.30/12 in the morning there is an indecent line!!

We arrived for the opening at 9am. There were a lot of people already waiting. The museum is not air conditioned except for a few parts.
It's a must-see.
The museum is big, people have gone everywhere and you can see everything in 1h30.
The part with Tutankhamun treasure is air conditioned but photos are forbidden.
One thing that shocked me a lot is that you can touch elements in the museum.
The museum shops are extremely expensive, the Guide advised against taking souvenirs. We drank a Coke + redbull for 8€.

I want to write my impressions of this museum.
God it was something with something, there were all the exhibits we studied in history books, not just mummies, but huge statuettes... And this museum is huge, you can get lost if you can't keep up with the guide. We had an excellent Russian-speaking guide who told us everything about each room and the exhibits. The queue was very long. A whole crowd had to stand for 20 - 30 minutes to get in there...The museum administration would have to do something about it...
It was cool to be there and see it live. After all, it was my dream to see the pyramids, visit the museum☺️👍

Visited on a excursion from Hurghada, this 100+ year old museum is just excellent. It took ages to get in, but it was worth the wait. Its not a very large museum compared to other major museums, but there are quite a lot of notable displays. The most notable display is everything to do with Tutankhamum which includes his mask, his coffin and notable artefacts from his tomb which are found on the upper floor in a small, dark, cramped room, in which you cannot take photos in unless you pay the security guard. Other notable displays include Statue of Djoser, Menkaure Triad Statue, Statue of Khafre, Statue of Mentuhotep II, Statue of Osiris, Statue of Rameses II, Colossal statuary group of Amenhotep III, Coffin of Akhenaten, Funerary Mask of Tuya, 2 famous Pyramidions, 2 Egyptian Mummies and many decorated coffins. There is so much too see and so much history behind each display. Its worth spending 2 hours in the actual museum. To get in is a very long waiting time as it is very popular with tourists and tour groups. However, this attraction just cannot be missed.

We had to fit this visit in on way to airport so had bags and time constrained. First point flight bags can be left for a tip at the left luggage cabin which is inside the museum complex (bags need to go through security screening at main gate) but outside the museum building near the cafeteria. The museum itself is fab not least because it is still currently (Sept 23) housing the Tutankhamun treasures, although lots of other things to see when those get relocated to the new museum being completed late in 2023? on West Bank near Pyramids. We quickly realised that to make the most of our two hours we'd need a guide. We spoke to one of the security guards in the museum and he contacted a guide on our behalf who showed up within a few minutes. Our guide Osama see details in photo was great complete contrast to some of the scammers who set up as guides around these attractions. He spoke good English, gave us the context of what we were seeing, was genuinely knowledgeable and really focused us on the interesting and unusual things to see there, highly recommend him.

I went to the museum on Tuesday, December 12th for a 12:45 show with some of my friends.

Unfortunately, I did not find a car with the battery to reach the entrance to the museum, and also when leaving, unfortunately, knowing that we are elderly. We had to walk, and it was exhausting for us.

During the guided tour with the guide, she told us that those who cannot climb the stairs with us can take the walker, and unfortunately, she did not pay attention to whether the walker was working or not. So I went up the stairs with whoever was able to get up on his feet. She started explaining, and we tried to call her to inform her that the walker was not working, and she continued explaining while we were still at the beginning of the stairs. Something very bad. We listened to the explanation with headphones for an hour without following or understanding anything.

At exactly 3 o'clock, after it was over, a security personnel came and turned on the walker with a key.

Lack of respect and lack of care for visitors.

The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities is an institution of great importance nationally, but also internationally, and rightly so considering the number and cultural and historical importance of the objects that are preserved there. The museum is housed in a building built in 1901, hosts over 120,000 exhibits, of which the most valuable are those from the funerary treasure of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. It is the largest museum on the African continent. I recommend visiting the museum with a guide because this way you have the opportunity to find out interesting things about the exhibits.

If you are in Egypt I recommend you visit the Cairo museum because it tells the whole history of old Egypt. It also has artefacts you won't see anywhere else (Tutankhamun's mask). However, the museum is outdated and ugly.
