An expat location with some of the best restaurants

We've been back multiple time and love the area. Wander the streets and find great shops and places to eat. One of the best areas to stay in

Zamalek is an Island situated in Cairo situated between 2 branches of the Nile. Is a place full of energy, Art galleries, Restaurants and Life !! You will get a taste of how Egyptian lived 50 years ago. Mostly of the Embassies are situated here.

Zamalek is an upmarket classy place to live and visit, i enjoyed having friends in Zamelek, and they have a great pasta restaurant that I visited frequently, it is posh and snobbish, at the same time cultured and sassy a good place to live.

Zamalek is a very interesting suburb of Cairo, home to a middle to upper middle class segment of society. Hence the number and range of eateries dotted in and around Zamalek, from local Egyptian to western chains and stand-alones. Zamalek has many small and interesting shops, from modern clothes, fashion and footwear to jewellery, antiques and books. There are many... More

Zamalek is well located for travels within Cairo. We had a Nile front hotel with beautiful views of the Nile. Close to restaurants and cafes. This is embassy/consular quarter so it is a bit more upmarket than the real Cairo.

i stayed at a hotel on this island, where many embassies are located. Hence it is a quieter area, and I had no hassle from souvenir sellers, a welcome change. Plenty of places to eat, fast food, and more up market, river boat restaurants. Several interesting parks and gardens, with statues of revolutionaries from around the world, or Sphinx's, and... It's a nice quiet place to stay/live in while in cairo. The nile is around you wherever you go. All the shops you need are close by. The best sweet shops and bakeries are around you. In the past it was a just a club for the rich and famous during the royals Era. Then became a residential area for... More

Many nice hotels , night life , restaurants and very safe. A lovely place to meet other expats. Old villas with elegant architecture and really worth a visit as it is so central to many tourist spots BUT loads of traffic.
