Memphis (Arabic: منف‎‎ Manf  pronounced [mænf]; Greek: Μέμφις) was the ancient capital of Aneb-Hetch, the first nome of Lower Egypt. Its ruins are located near the town of Mit Rahina, 20 km (12 mi) south of Giza. According to legend related by Manetho, the city was founded by the pharaoh Menes. Capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom, it remained an important city... More

A visit to the open-air museum in Memphis was included as part of a private tour with guide. The Statue of Ramses II is very impressive. A purpose-built viewing platform enables you to look down upon the statue for a much closer look. Unfortunately there is not much else really there to see. In the outside area there are a... More

This is a must see in Memphis even though it pales in comparison to the Cairo Museum. Don't miss the alabaster Sphinx and the Ramses II statue!

It's very near to saqqara pyramid but you need to have a guide because I don't think you will be able to go by yourself It's not so big but it has a lot of statues

I was taken here as part of a tour, otherwise not sure if it's worth it. The statue of Ramses II is impressive, he has not most amazing smile and lips, a bit like Mona Lisa. The Sphinx of Memphsis also quite good and in better condition than the actual Sphinx.

Not a lot to look at here, but the big statue lying down and a few others are worth a look. The key is the historical significance of the place.

We stopped over quick on our way to the great pyramid. It was quite hot so we only stayed for about 15 minutes which was enough. Its a good idea to see the sphinx here as its the only one without any damages

My husband and I visited Memphis while on a day trip during our recent stay in Cairo. While we enjoyed the "small" statue of Ramses II (which is huge) and the few other statues we saw here, there really wasn't much to it. Having traveled to many other sites in Cairo, I would only recommend this specific location if you... More

While no where as overwhelming as the Cairo Museum. It has a lot more charm and is better organized for viewing! To all hand who work there all I can say is Well Done!
