It's an average place, locals charge so much to tourists, it's always good to go with some Egyptian. Try to enjoy and don't fall prey to vendors.

It's interesting to walk around, but most of the stuff on sale our trinkets that I don't think are worth it. Good to go with a guide. Just spend 15 min walking around and that's all you need.

Interesting marketplace. You must visit it to get the flavour (and odour) of Cairo. You will find all kinds off merchandising, from gold (mostly 14k), carpets, spices and fake brand name clothing. Once I asked if the "Levis" pants I was about to buy were real and the seller answer me: "They are real copy"... LOL

Here is a place you go to see locals hang out and shopping in a bazaar environment. So when you go to a bazaar, like any bazaar anywhere in the world, don't expect a shopping mall environment. I was lucky an Egyptian friend brought me there late in the evening. The restaurant are a tad expensive for local food but... More

The area was unclean, there was bunch restaurants on the front, they have guys standing in your way and interfere begging you to try their restaurant, one of them made me so angry to the degree that i wanted hit him, however, the shops does not have fixed prices at all, the quality of the goods is bad.

This area of Hussin are really targeted at tourists. You have to bargain quite hard for the things you,d like to buy. The restaurants there also very expensive. The food not as tasty as other places. The only thing worth seeing are the unique and old historical buildings around this area.

We were there prior to the recent unrest - May 2010 and it was a great experience! We met a gentleman who owns a restaurant (great food!) and then took us to all the shops and negotiated pricing for us. He made sure to take us to all the best shops with and let us know what shops/area to stay... More
