With Djed we booked the classic tour including the dahabiya cruise.
A fantastic trip perfectly organised and tailored to our wishes.
What made the experience really special were the people, the drivers who ensured that the vans were spotless clean and we had cold bottled water at all times, and the guides who made the history of the sites come alive with there explanations and stories, they all made a real effort to help us get the best out of our trip.
Special thanks to Mr Zaki and Nuhair in Cairo, Hamed and Ghada in Luxor, and Amir and Erini, our guides in Abu Simbel and Aswan
The four day dahabiya cruise was a lovely experience, a dahabiiya is like a big yacht. Slow upriver sailing without an engine, small group visit to the sites along the way with Hamdi, our very knowledgeable guide, and being able to stop at nice spots on the bank of the Nile for a dip in the water or an evening barbecue made the experience unforgettable, thank you to Ahmed and the Dahabiya crew.
Thank you also for the local coordination by Tarek (Cairo) Osama (Luxor) and Youcef/Joe (Aswan).

We had an amazing time on the Dahabiya Zekraayat. Having this peaceful experience at the end of a long trip was wonderful. The food was always very good, but we especially loved the barbecue night on the shore. Passengers with food restrictions were catered to consistently. The crew was very welcoming and we were able to be under sail for about half of the cruise even though we were traveling against the current, which was lovely. We especially appreciated our guide Youssef, who was so patient and thorough with everyone's questions and made history come alive during stops.

We loved our Dahabiya experience. Our guide Muhammad was knowledgeable, kind and patient and the information he gave us greatly enhanced our enjoyment of Luxor after as well. The staff was incredibly attentive to our every need. The boat and our cabin were immaculate and the food quality, variety and presentation was fantastic. We very much enjoyed the other guests too. 5 stars for Nike Dahabiya!

We chose one of their boats, the completely new “Miriam”, and it was hands down the best way to travel the Nile from Esna to Aswan. The cook was just great and - we do not eat meat - prepared fresh fish twice for us. The crew was terrific and Hussein our guide very helpful and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed our four days on the ship and its relaxing and tranquil atmosphere. Cabins are great too!

A fantastic experience that exceeded all expectations! We had three different Djed guides in Luxor, Aswan, and Cairo. All three were knowledgeable guides and terrific hosts. Thanks for making our once-in-a-lifetime trip safe, memorable, and worry-free!

Where do I begin? Djed Travel coordinated a flawless and exciting trip that I had dreamed of since I was a child. I would not hesitate to highly recommend them as a very professional, personal, and reliable travel company. Communication was outstanding and prompt. They were patient while I decided on our final arrangements and they did not disappoint by creating a unique and very special experience. I felt that we received a great value with every tour, airport transfer, hotel, restaurant, Dahabiya Nile cruise, professionally educated Egyptologist guides, and safe and skilled drivers. 100% pleased!
If you are concerned about traveling to Egypt due to the conflict in Israel I would not hesitate to share that we felt completely safe while we were on our 3 week trip traveling North to South throughout the country. There was no indication of the conflict anywhere. We felt relaxed and comfortable everywhere we went. Everyone was kind and generous to us. We fell in love with the country and their people.
Our Djed Egyptologist guides were all educated at a 4 year university program. They were all outstanding in their breath of knowledge and unique perspectives. They all spoke excellent english (Arabic and other languages as well) and beyond educating us they took very good care of us, including helping with meals, shopping, money exchanges, and special requests. I cannot share enough positive thoughts about each of them. I'd like to personally thank them again by naming them here:
Mohamed Hedar
Ahmed Mahmoud
Samar Elbakry
Mohamed Abou Ilnaga (also know as Mohamed from the Netherlands)
I would be remiss if I did not mention Tarek who was our "handler" in Cairo and part of the Djed office operations. He was kind, efficient, professional and made our airport transfers easy and relaxed. He was always where he said he would be and on time. We shared many conversations to and fro and his honestly and deep love of his country was sincerely appreciated. A very special man.
Mrs. Asmaa Saad El Din was our agent who coordinated and designed our entire trip. I wish I could have met her in person to thank her for my dream trip. She responded to my every request promptly , kindly and with patience. Her emails replies were always prompt and on point.
Driving in Egypt, especially in Cairo, is a wild and crazy experience. I have never seen anything like it! I never felt unsafe with our skilled drivers, they were polite, funny and always got us where we needed to go:
Mohamed Koshary (that's his nickname)
Saleh (who drove our 4 wheel drive vehicle in the desert and gave us a very unique and memorable day)
Ashram
Mohamed Qenawy
It would be difficult to cover every experience during our 3 weeks in Egypt but here are some highlights in no certain order:
Tour of the mosques and coptic churches in Cairo where we listened to prayers being sung in the most beautiful of settings
The Grand Egyptian Museum is funky and not to be missed. Not only is it stuffed with antiquities, but the building itself is 100+ years old and the architecture and old wood/glass cases with descriptions are a delight too! Great gift shop. The new museum is delayed and will likely open in the next 2-3 years is he word on the street!
4 night nile cruise on a Djed owned Dahabiya boat including a visit to the local markets and the camel livestock market
Being the only 2 people at Abu Simbel/Ramses II & Queen Nefertari site and seeing a falcon dance through the sky for us when we emerged
A day trip to Alexandria (stay the night if you can)
Visiting the Red Sea/El Quseir for a fews days of beach time and snorkeling
Dendara and Abydos temples
Felucca sailing in Aswan
Henna tatoo on Kitchener's Island @ Botanical Gardens
Day trip to Al Fayoum Oasis
Overnight stay st Kabbara Nubian House
Villa Nile Guest House in Luxor (delicious dinners and breakfast from their own kitchen)
Delicious food everywhere including Sofra restaurant in Luxor, Tabbouleh in Cairo, Blue Lotus restaurant in Sakkara, and all the meals on the Nile cruise. Explore the cuisine!
Here are few helpful hints:
It is a hot country, regardless of the time of year. Check current temperatures, not averages.
Pack clothing with breathable fabrics and bring layers.
A hand fan is helpful for cooling and moving air while helping to keep the flies away.
A handkerchief/bandana to wipe your sweat and cover your mouth when dusty
A bottle of Febreze to refresh your clothing
Restrooms: Carry toilet paper just in case. There are wash rooms readily available, very often maned by a local woman. They keep the bathrooms clean, help you find an open stall and hand you toilet paper. This is a job that they do well and it provides for their family. Please do not avoid tipping them, 20 Egyptian pounds is roughly 30 cents! Be generous, imagine doing their job all day long and with a smile.
Tipping in Egypt is customary. You will get the hang of it and learn to keep various denominations on hand to properly show your gratitude. It does not become annoying unless you let it. Plan for it, know that it is part of their economy, and remember you are a visitor in their beautiful country.
If you get the opportunity to visit small villages you will be enchanted with the children. They all go to school for a time, as education is very important in Egypt. Small gifts of pencils and notepads would be so appreciated!
I'll post photographs very soon.
From the bottom of my heart I thank Djed for an unforgettable trip. I will be back!

We have just returned from a wonderful trip to Egypt. DJED looked after us from the beginning to the end. Tarek picked us up at the airport with our driver in Cairo, Osama. Tarek guided us through immigration and collected our currency for us. On our way to our hotel, he gave us useful information about staying in Egypt and what was locally made and worth buying to take home. We then had two days seeing the pyramids and the city with Mary with Osama, negotiating the manic Cairo traffic for us for us. Like all our guides, Mary was friendly and knowledgeable and we felt we gained some insight into life in Egypt, as well as seeing the sites. We then transferred to Luxor and Amal took us round the temples in Luxor and the valley of the kings. Again, she was excellent. We spent the next four days on the Dahabiya Nora . I can’t recommend this highly enough. The small boat was a wonderful way to cruise the Nile . The maximum capacity was. 15 people., there were 11 of us .We had nine staff looking after us. The guide was Abdullah. He was unparalleled and told us lots of stories about the sites we saw and took us to some smaller and less known places and Nubian had some interesting insights and took us to some local places. The food was excellent, the salad were washed in mineral water for our delicate western stomachs. The company on the on the boat was really good. We arranged an age from 25 to early 70s and Ben S review November 2023 was one of our travelling companions. We then transferred to Aswan and spent a day with Ireni visiting the temple of Philadelphia and The Temples of Abu Simbel . It was lunchtime and we had Abu Simbel almost to ourselves It’s a long drive to Abdul Simbel but the drive was interesting in itself for us as we could see the new towns being built, the irrigation projects and the trucks driving off to the border with Sudan. We then returned to Cairo and Mary and Osama again and had a tour of the Cairo museum. We felt safe in Egypt. The security was good and we were well looked after.. Risk can never be entirely eliminated, but is, of course present in European cities. The numbers are of tourists is down slightly so the sites are less crowded and it is an excellent time to go.

We have just finished nearly three weeks travelling around Egypt and have had the most amazing time! We have been really happy with the entire team at Djed who helped us plan our own bespoke tour. We have really enjoyed the excellent service of the great drivers in modern vans and we have really loved all our brilliant guides who were so knowledgeable. Waleed, Dina, Abdulla, Mary and all the staff have been great.
The cruise on the Dahabiya Nora was an absolute highlight and something we will never forget.
We felt safe and really well looked after throughout the entire trip and would encourage anyone who is thinking about visiting Egypt to do so. This country relies so heavily on tourism and they need our support as they are just getting back on their feet after covid. And with numbers down, you can have much better access to the sites without huge crowds too.
Thank you Djed for the amazing experience and everlasting memories.

We had two day trip tours in Luxor with Amani from Djed Travel (Djed Travel have organised the whole week for us following on from a week’s diving in the Ted Sea).
Amani was a truly excellent guide - very knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend time with. The pace of the tours was perfect and she was very attentive to our needs.
We can thoroughly recommend Djed Travel.

We did a lot of reviews for boat tours on the Nile, and decided that the Djed Nile Dahabiya boat tour would be perfect! They certainly didn't disappoint. We were on the Nora for 3 days sailing from Aswan to Luxor. We splurged and got one of the suites at the end of the boat with it's own private outside sitting area. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting the rest of the group on the boat and being pampered by the crew. Our guide, Hussein, was a wealth of knowledge and each stop was filled with new things to experience!
While in Egypt, we also signed up with Djed Egypt Tours for 4 tours in Cairo/Giza, as well as one in Aswan and one in Luxor. Our guide for the Cairo/Giza tours was Mary - you will be very lucky if you're able to have her for your tours. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with her and our driver - most days it was Omar!
What we liked best about Djed tours was that they were private - just my husband, our guide and driver. Definitely the way to go!!

This will be my 10th attempt to get a reply from your company over the past 3 weeks. I have emailed, Facebooked, called, submitted your booking form, and now this. Are you still in business? What is the best way to reach you? Please, I'm interested in your services.

They owner of Djed is named Ayman Simman. He lives in Holland, but travels frequently (I am told) to Egypt. I also experienced a delay when I tried to contact him, but he eventually did. After that everything was good. He may be traveling. You would think that Ayman would have employees who answer email inquiries when he is unavailable, but one way to have control over your business is to answer all the mails yourself. So that could be a reason. My opinion is give it a little more time. And, by the way, before I booked with Djed I tried to contact a couple of other agencies and got the same response: NO response. Ayman was the one who finally responded, but none of the others ever did. Clearly they are not hurting for business. I also know that this is the high time of their tourist season - all travel agencies in Egypt would be very busy right now.

If we elect to by cash on arrival, rather than by credit card with 3% markup, is this safe?

If you mean to pay for the services with cash, then you would do so on arrival...just make sure to ask for a receipt or have them sign your invoice indicating that they got the full amount and hold on to that. If you have further questions, feel free to contact me.

Does anyone at Djed answer emails? Should I call. I've written the company twice (both emails) in the past two weeks. I haven't heard anything and tried again today. Looking at the answers below I realize that this is typical for them, so I'll wait until Monday before I book with Memphis instead. I understand that they're a real company but this is making me uncomfortable in booking with them. Djed if you're there, please respond to TravelXena today. Thanks.

While it sometimes took a couple days for email responses (and once I had to write twice to get a response) they normally responded next day. No reason not to call them also. I thought they were outstanding at a reasonable price. Good luck.

We paid less than 700 US dollars by going near the end of hi season. It was a bit warm but there were not tourists crawling all over the place. GREAT TRIP...Nice choice. You will be blown away over and over to the point where you will have sensory overload.
Have fun...I'm jealous.

To reach the owner of Djed travel who lives in Netherlands try this number: +31 70 381 5533
I'm not sure this is correct, but Mr. Simman called me a couple of times during our tour, to make sure everything was OK (he really is a great guy!), and I found this Netherlands number on my phone for the right period. I think it must be him.

I am trying to book my revised itinerary for Djed travel but they are extremely slow to respond (last 2-3 weeks) - is this normal? I'm not even sure if they are still operating. They provided a very thorough itinerary at a reasonable cost; so I would prefer to continue with them if possible. But I feel I'm in limbo.

I worked with them last year. They definitely can sometimes drop the ball on email replies, but almost always a clear email of "I've tried several times with no response" will get them up and running again. Their travel arrangements were impeccable with very few hiccups, and so I would happily work with them again despite the occasional challenges with responses. It is also Ramadan right now, which slows everything down as well.
