    Worth a Quick Stop
This 2.7 km avenue connects the temples of Luxor and Karnak and is lined with mounts that originally held sphinxes. The mounts closest to the temples of Karnak and Luxor have the most intact Sphinxes but near the Luxor Museum many Sphinxes are missing. You can walk almost entirely alongside the route at street level for free but if you want to walk the entire route on the Avenue you have to buy admission to both temples as buying only at one would allow you to go halfway. We felt the end by Luxor Temple was better with better picture opportunities with the temple in the background.

    Walking in the past
This avenue connects the two famous temples: Luxor and Karnak. Originally it was 3kms long. We didn’t go all the way, we had no time. We walked there from Luxor Temple and saw many Sphinxes and the Sun ark, on which the pharaoh goes to the after-life. It was the most interesting part for me.

Impressive Avenue of Sphinxes lines the route between Luxor Temple and the Temple of Karnak
The Avenue of Sphinxes stretches from the Luxor Temple to the Temple of Karnak. The sheer magnitude of carving all these identical sphinxes and lining them along the rite between the two temples is very impressive. The length is 3 kilometers. You are able to walk the entire avenue, but we didn’t feel energetic enough to undertake it.

After visiting the Luxor Temple, I saw the signage about this avenue. It was about 12:30 p.m when I was here and the heat was so intense. I quickly took some pictures of the sphinxes and hurriedly looked for shaded areas where I could cool off.

This recently opened up to tourists after 70 years of discovery and restoration. Sphinxes and Rams as far as the eye can see...just magnificent.

We did this as part of Luxur Temple in the evening when everything was illuminated. Quite impressive. There were not many people, so it was also very quiet.

The Avenue had only been open about 7 months when we visited--we didn't get a chance to walk from one temple to the other, but many people were doing so. FYI--Google maps hasn't updated yet--we were walking in town, and the street it directed us to abruptly ended because the Avenue had been built! Very cool to stand at one end and look down the Avenue--video of the opening procession was interesting as well!

The avenue of the Sphinxes lines the road to the Temple of Luxor, included with the Temple of Luxor. So many beautiful Sphinx line the road, I did plan to count them but by this point in the day we were hot and tired!

Great place to visit of historic value and it certainly looks great at night with the lights. It can get too hot during the day.

The sphinxes are much closer together than I assumed, and the avenue is much longer than I imagined. A bunch are missing but it is still impressive to think about how it once looked.
