About
We sail the Nile! Come sailing with us! Get the feeling of sailing down the longest river in the world, where the Egyptian pharaohs lived and built their temples. There is not a cloud to be seen in the clear blue sky. The shores are lined with mango trees and date palms. The mountains of Thebes rise in the west behind a narrow fertile strip of soil along the shore.

The best part of our trip to Egypt was the time we spent on the Abundance with Sail the Nile. During the planning phase, when we were researching different Nile cruise options and considering our itinerary, Johanna was responsive and patient with our many questions. Choosing to travel on a dahabiya, a small boat with no motor, was a great decision; although many larger boats cruised by as we sailed slowly down the Nile, our trip was incredibly peaceful. There was time both to leave the boat each day for short tours, but also to sun, read, play games, or simply enjoy a glass of wine while watching the scenery. From the moment we were welcomed aboard with hibiscus tea, the crew treated us like family. They were so attentive to our every need, asking what time we would like to have meals (including afternoon tea), keeping our rooms clean, preparing and serving delicious food, mooring the boat to allow us to swim, and helping in any way they could to make us enjoy our time with them. My daughter got sick during our trip, and the chef prepared special meals for her. I celebrated my birthday and the chef laid out a beautiful buffet and served a fancy chocolate cake; the crew strung lights, blew up balloons, and hosted a dance party for us- amazing! The boat had five cabins, each with a private bath; my husband and I shared the master cabin with a small balcony at the rear of the boat, which was simply lovely. As there were six people in our party, we were able to charter the entire boat for close to the cost of making six individual reservations – this made our trip especially relaxing. Finally, Salah, our guide, was absolutely wonderful. He escorted us to some smaller sites which one might not see if travelling on the larger cruises, including a fun walk through an Egyptian farm and village, and a visit to a camel market. He was so knowledgeable, articulate, and fun- interested in talking about both the history of his country and world politics. His contribution to our trip was invaluable- we learned so much from him and so enjoyed his company. Seeing the sights in Cairo, Luxor, and Abu Simbel was great, but traveling with Sail the Nile will show you a different side of Egypt and its hospitable people. Highly recommended!

We had a very nice time and I can’t rate under 5 stars because they really take care of us , BUT the owner of the boat should treat better the employees… they only have 2 or 3 beds for 9 people , they sleep on the floor on the boat. You can feel that they are forced to smile everytime , say sorry for nothing ( for exemple he said sorry because we spilled one glass) , also the man that was serving us all the trip, completely lost his smile the day we were leaving, at that moment we really felt the smile was fake . That’s why I think a better treatment for them and more equality between us and the employees could make the trip more authentic… the last point is the guide , he was horrible with them , always asking someone to serve him , acting like a king on the boat and it was uncomfortable for us to see that (also he doesn’t speak English or French so it was almost impossible to communicate with him 😅)

We sailed aboard Abundance for 5 days. We had 3 different nationalities of passenger on the cruise and each group had their own guide. Maged was absolutely amazing; so knowledgable, interesting and very kind. All the tours and expeditions were very well organised and stress free. The chef on Abundance was brilliant, I'm still not sure how he managed to prep so many delicious meals for roughly 18 people in the world's tiniest galley kitchen. We were 8 travellers, 3 guides and up to 10 crew on board but the dahabiya felt roomy and comfortable. The cabins were small but very well thought out and the en-suites were lovely. Nice products too! All the staff from the Captain to Mustapha the young lad who got to do all the jobs requiring nimbleness (like climbing the mast), were lovely and chatty but not intrusive. Just the best. This was absolutely the best way to experience the Nile and its treasures, I can't recommend this Sail the Nile highly enough.

Our experience with Sail the Nile was incredible. Our time on the boat "Abundance" was easily the highlight of my trip. The itinerary was extremely well balanced between activities that ended right as I started to feel tired and enough leisurely boat time to feel rested.
The entire crew was friendly and welcoming, and as we got further into our journey, things became even more relaxed and friendly. Somehow the food started good and got better every single night. The boat is clean and well maintained and the views down the Nile are amazing. I really appreciated the scale of the boat, it was not so small as to be uncomfortable, but still small enough to dock off the beaten path and take us to some villages to have some more authentic cultural experiences. Even when we were going through more local villages our guide, Sahal, was both reassuring and very informative and did a good job of presenting the information above and beyond just reading a rehearsed blurb.
Our time in Luxor was also nice and I wanted to mention that Khalid was very competent, accommodating and reassuring, which was very welcome as a relatively inexperienced traveler.

A beautiful sailing cruise that everyone who is on the Nile must experience!!!
We had a great week on board, our stern balcony cabin was a dream, the very nice crew fulfilled every wish,
The chef Hassan conjured up fresh, super-tasty varied food every day - even the delicious salads could be enjoyed without hesitation! And Mohammed from the service was fun for everyone! 😀
We sailed every day, which was another very special experience!!!
Fathi passionately explained his Egypt and the temples of the ancient Egyptians during the great excursions, so that we felt transported back in time to the Pharaohs!
The week passed far too fast, but we hope that we will make this absolute dream trip again soon!!!🤩

We had a wonderful time on the Dahabeya and I would like to divide our experiences into 4 different topics:
1. The excursions to the various sights were very varied and our tour guide (Fathi) was incredibly helpful and explained everything to us in great detail and in a structured way. The cultural and historical experience in the various temples, but also in cities, villages and quarries was absolutely impressive!
2. The food on the Dahabeya is fresh, delicious and varied. For breakfast there are egg dishes, pancakes and toast. A rich lunch and a small buffet for dinner. Since there are always different dishes that can be combined with each other, the food is also suitable for vegetarians. The food is washed and prepared with drinking water and is therefore also very digestible for European stomachs.
3. The cabins are very small, but well furnished and clean. You don't spend much time in the cabins as there is a beautiful sun deck with various seating areas. There is WiFi on board.
4. The crew is incredibly attentive and friendly. They read your every wish from your lips (after I told them that I like pizza, there was pizza the next day / when we talked about shisha, they organized a shisha from the market especially for us). Great people!
We can only warmly recommend a trip on the Dahabeya to everyone!

We spent four wonderful nights aboard the Minya, sailing upstream from Luxor to Aswan. It is the most romantic vessel, with room for 14 passengers (13 on our trip), small enough to feel intimate with the iconic river. It travelled under sail when the wind allowed.
It is a beautiful craft (even the floor of the lower-deck corridor was lovely) with an authentic Egyptian feel. There are several lounge areas above and below deck, so you can mix as much or as little as you wish. Drinks and meals are served on the open upper deck.
Aircon in all cabins. We took (and strongly recommend) the spacious suite at the stern, with twin balconies where we lay drowsing as the banks drifted by and the rudder churned the Nile’s waters.
The crew gave us a trouble-free passage and were ultra-attentive to our needs.
Two guides, for English and French speakers, took us to nearby temples and villages. They unfolded the meanings behind the beautiful and enigmatic hieroglyphs, and welcomed questions. Again, they were attentive to our needs.
Remarkably, the captain purchased a wheelchair to make life easier for my wife, who had been struggling on long walks with only a walking stick.
Without question this was the highlight of our two weeks in Egypt.

Wow- where to start with this trip!
From before arriving in Egypt, Brittani had been amazing to deal with- answering any questions, queries and concerns with ease!
All I can say is that this trip has been magical. Every day we would wake up and think- wow! How is this real life. And the thing that made it the best was the staff.
We would like to give a shout out to our guide Saleh, he was great, had incredible knowledge and told us everything and more about the history of Egypt. You could tell he was so passionate about what he does. Everything was mind blowing. This trip also takes you to some of the lesser known temples on the banks of the Nile which are some of the best presevered and are absolutely beautiful.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner was served along with coffee and cakes and snacks. Alcoholic Drinks were extra and I have to say the Egyptian wine was not bad. Special shout out to Ahmed who was so attentive. I let them know that I didn’t eat meat and they cooked me fish at dinner each night.
It was one guests birthday when we were there and the staff made him a cake and everyone was up dancing and having a great time. The staff made this trip, and made everything feel special, magical and safe for us.
The team also arranged for us to visit Luxor and Karnak temple before we left and everything was seamless. I recommend adding this on before leaving Luxor!
Overall, I would say if you’re thinking about this trip- do it. Sail the Nile was the best trip and we would come back in a heartbeat!

This was a trip of a lifetime, I’ve never been more pleased that I found the boat & crew of the Abundance who not only brought out the sheer joy, excitement & adventure of seeing Egypt from the Nile but also made me feel very safe , spoilt and at home. I could not recommend this company or it’s people more… will definitely do again . From the minute you step on the boat you are welcomed by the Captain & Mohammed Adel with a cold drink and from there the hospitality continues to delight. My tour guide Salah was beyond knowledgeable and taught me so many things about Egyptian life now & historically.

Our trip was amazing from the beginning to the end. Everything went smoothly and as someone who travels a lot I know how difficult it is to coordinate transport with whole itinerary. Stuff was extremely professional, treated us with kindness and always with a smile. Car was clean, with aircon and usb-c plugs to charge phones, the driver welcomed us with cold water and took us to Valley of Kings and Luxor Temple. On the boat rooms were very comfortable, food was exceptional and tours were very interesting with experienced tour guide. Would (and will) do it again 100%

Hi, is it possible to travel from Aswan to Luxor by boat, without the cruise/site stops? Many thanks.

I know you can go on a cruise that stops at several places, but it's a long ride between the 2 cities if you go by sailboat. We did the sail boat for a few a few hours. You might want to fly.
