When we decided the itinerary to Tibet, everyone is so excited to take the 22-hour overnight train from Xining to Lhasa. We already managed our expectation on the hygiene level on the train and the toilet, without any shower there. Luckily the travel agency managed to book the first class 4-seater soft sleeper berth cabin for 4 of us so... More

It is the best transportation to reach Lhasa in high altitude. A cabin of 4 beds are comfortable and clean in first class. Please make sure to take vertigo pills 1-2 days prior your trip. If you did not, please start to inhale oxygen and drink more water when the train starts to exceed 4,900m altitude. Wagon staff can provide... More

Left Lhasa for Xi'an and the first seven hours were the best for scenery, cleanliness for the WC and access to the dining car. We spent overnight in a soft sleeper compartment sharing with two male occupants who were kindly older gentleman that didn't speak a word of English - sometimes a bit awkward. We're two tall individuals and the... More

Hi Elizandrichard, yes, the train journey between Ngaqu and Golmud is amazing. I believe that you have seen. Due to some limitation, the personal necessities on the train are not equipped, so customers need bring their own toothbrush, toothpaste, towel and so on. In addition, most of passengers would like to take the train from Xining to Lhasa and you... More

An absolute must for any traveller, not just the journey but the destination too. We took the train from Beijing West to Lasa. A memorable trip to say the least...and good experience before going onto something longer like the Trans Siberian. We had a Hard Sleeper going to Lasa and Soft Sleeper going to Xi'an. Hard Sleeper is a cabin... More

Hi Duram, thank you so much for your review here. Taking a train to Lhasa is choices of most of travelers to Lhasa. Although it is long time and distance journey, it is worth doing, because it is relatively cheaper, than by flight and you can also enjoy more natural landscapes and cultural changing from eastern China to western part. It is worth to have a train voyage along the 5000m high altitude to experience the marvelous ice mountain, grand lakes and numerous spacious green Plains with sheeps and cows. They ate so awesome and amazing! However if you got the High Altitude Sickness, you may not get any help from the on-site officers even they have the wall-mounted bells... More

Hi Queenie, thank you to show your problem on the train to Lhasa. It it true that you may not get any help from the train attendant even when you get the High Altitude Sickness, because most attendant do not know how to do and they can not speak English. In July, there is a rumor that all foreign passengers... More

Start from Xining 2295 meters, kulun mountain 4767, Tanggula pass 5072, then Lhasa 3658. a very special experience following the GOBI desert then the high tibetan plateau with snow end of may. Hi Gabriel, yes, the High Altitude Sickness on the train to Lhasa is a adventure because the altitude changes in short 24 hours and it is hard for passengers to acclimate themselves to it. So, the train is equipped with Oxygen and when the train arrives at Golmud, Oxygen will be put out. Welcome you to travel to Tibet next... More

Taking the Lhasa Express was an exceptional experience. There are a few levels of the cars: only seats, bedded, and bedded with sheets. We chose the last one and it cost around 900 CNY for each from Xining to Lhasa. The whole trip was around 22+ hours. Sometimes it felt a bit boring just sitting in the car, though the... More

Hi Bestlambert, thank you very much for your good review here. Actually, there are four train levels of the cars to Lhasa: hard seat, soft seat, hard-sleeper and soft-sleeper, with different prices. Most of foreign passengers would like to choose hard-sleeper or soft-sleeper. It is relatively expensive, but passengers can sleep when it night and sit at the aisle to... More

Ni Jacqueline, thank you very much for your good review. Welcome to travel to Lhasa by train next time. Chengdu is one of good beginning points to take the Tibet train in 2016 because it is very easy to buy the train tickets, while it is very hard to buy the train tickets from Beijing. More
