For the equivalent of US$65, I had a wonderful two-hour package: full body massage and a foot soak and extra massage. My massage therapist was very thorough and gave me one of the best Chinese-style I have ever had. The place is also very pretty and relaxing.
NOTE: It does not seem to be part of their routine to ask about health or other particular issues, so be ready to volunteer if you have anything like that to say.

I live in Beijing and this is my top choice for spa services. The reception staff speaks English very well. The facility, while somewhat small, is extremely clean, relaxing, and well decorated. The massages are good and priced very well compared to hotel spas. The manicures and pedicures are also very good. The location is convenient to the Kempenski, Westin, and Four Seasons for those looking for an alternative to the hotel spa.

Thank you very much for all of your positive comments! We know our shop is not the biggest - but we strive to make each of our rooms cosy and comfortable - and above all relaxing, so you can escape from the hustle and bustle outside our doors. We pride ourselves on the attention to detail of our staff, and also that our receptionists speak English so it is easy for us to welcome visitors from all around the globe. Thank you once again for sharing your thoughts! Best Regards, Randal

We went to this spa and felt we got our money's worth. The staff speak good English and are very knowledgeable with their menu offerings. The massages incorporate acupuncture pressure points. The facilities were beautiful and the staff were very friendly. I enjoyed the head pillow rest and the attention to detail in the rooms. We recommend the facials and aroma massage. The mani/pedis are fast and not as friendly in terms of the massage therapist. Ask that you get upgraded to a VIP suite if you plan on booking multiple services.

I came back now from Dragonfly (near Yansha qiao, Beijing) extremely furious. I am Dragonfly client for four years and I use their manicure and pedicure, despite the fact that they are 3 times more expensive than others, due to their supposedly high safety standards. However, today, during my usual mani/pedi I discovered that their sterilizer isn't working for quite a while (for long, no one could tell me how long). It means that all their equipment isn't properly treated and they endanger their clients with HIV, hepatitis and other disease that can be transferred this way. I demanded to talk to their manager (who was out and her english wasn't good to talk with me by phone) and tried to explain to the girl in charge how dangerous it is. She only said "you are right" and we will fix it soon. I called my doctor to do blood test in two-three weeks to make sure I am ok, since I had a small open wound on one of my hands. I am extremely upset and I would like to warn other clients to make sure that sterilizer is properly in use before they do any mani/pedi in Dragonfly or anywhere else.

Booked a massage here with my wife.
During the massage the masseuse's decided it was a great time to catch up and spent most of the time talking full volume to each other and often laughing. Incredibly rude when they are speaking in Chinese and you have no idea what they are saying.

If I owned this place I would immediately train the staff to understand people have come to relax not to listen to their conversations. The least relaxing massage we both have had. Only regret is not walking out!

Dragonfly has two things going for it that keep it in business: it is located in the heart of an expat bubble, and its staff speaks English. You can certainly stop in for a simple mani/pedi and a massage, but all services are extremely overpriced. Not even three blocks north of there is Golden Time, which offers not only excellent massage services, but a broader variety of massages at competitive prices--and they offer complimentary beverages and snacks.
I visited dragonfly on the recommendation of neighbors. We felt rushed the entire time. The pedicure set up is quite uncomfortable, and was really just a quick foot rinse, file, and polish job. The manicures were not any different.

If you are desperate for a spa day and don't want to leave Chaoyang, there are not many places that combine both mani/pedi with massage services. But for a fraction of the cost you can get each done--with more pampering--if you are willing to sacrifice on the English language a bit.

The Dragonfly is a chain of massage spas (the decent kind) located around China.
I went to two branches during my holiday. One was okay, the other one (in Beijing) was excellent. The girl I had was tiny, but very strong. The traditional chinese massage is a bit like shiatsu ie you wear loose pajamas and dont have oil on our body.
It isnt a luxurious spa, but clean a and liked the fact it was busy, but not over the top in terms of 'extras'. I had a nice cup of tea and the massage table was fine. The massage itself was fantastic - she asked if the pressure was okay art regular intervals and was very courteous. I really felt relaxed and well afterwards. The customer service was excellent, even if many of them they didnt speak english they were kind, polite and very helpful. They also accept credit cards, which is a bonus.
I really enjoyed the experience and would recommend looking up ones local Dragonfly when you're travelling around China esp after walking around the city or a flight. They are easy for non-Chinese speakers and their website is in English and Chinese.

Dear traveller2007, We're glad to hear you enjoyed your Dragonfly experience. We take pride in catering to both Chinese and non-Chinese speakers. We've trained our staff to be as courteous and helpful as possible to ensure your total relaxation. Our Chinese Massage is indeed simple, but one of the most effective ways to release all of your built up tensions and let your worries drift away. Best wishes from all of us at Dragonfly.

I really enjoy the treatments, though they are pretty expensive. But the products and services are worth it.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover Dragonfly Spa near our Beijing apartment. On the plus side it is a convenient location for mani/pedi and massage. The foot massage is by far a favorite; quick but thorough relaxation treat. The prices are a bit high by Beijing standards but they do try to step up the quality. Wendy, Jessie, and Betty take great pride in their work. I do have a few issues in the nail area though - not enough to stop me from going, but certainly hope this improves: cleanliness is sometimes hit or miss and I sometimes have to remind the person working on me to clean or replace an instrument. Further for the price of mani/pedis there are too many add-ons; pay extra for polish quick dry or pay extra for dry skin serum. These are usually 100+ RMB and at 350+ RMB do the service this should be included. No one goes for a relaxing nail appointment to get pestered for paying additional fees. Also, the selection of nail polish colors while broad, needs to be refreshed. The colors are a bit dated and on on several occasions, the polish is dry in the bottle. I now bring my own polish. Overall I have been a happy customer for nearly three years. The staff is super friendly and likes to practice English while customers practice Chinese. The massages are fantastic. With a few tweaks it could truly be a five star spa.

Thank you for praise and also your frank comments about how we could improve our service. We are very proud of our Nail Spa services, which we first launched in 2004 after customers begged us for a stylish and hygienic place to get their nails done with quality products. We now carry 7 lines of imported products in a wide range of colours. Sometimes in China brands phase out their colours and this is why we have added more high quality lines to our offering (organic ranges, shellac ranges). Hygiene in the nail spa is of paramount importance for us and this includes sterilizing our instruments before we begin with each customer. Admittedly we do have a rich menu of add-on services in the nail spa - but these are entirely optional. Please keep sharing your feedback! Sincerely, Randal

In general the staff and check in for your services are great. Very professional and warm. I have my favorite masseur, but I am not sharing his name because I want him all to myself. I have two types of scoliosis in my back, and with all the travel I do having a massage is more than relaxing - its maintains my health. I make sure to come here once a week if I can while I am traveling in China. The ambiance is American relaxing spa, but the staff provide a traditional Tui Na chinese deep tissue massage. I get mani / pedi's here as well, and its in a building with starbucks, burgers, grocery store, etc. Just all around a great place.
