I had been to Badaling Great Wall previously and this time decided to tour Mutianyu Great Wall with a private guide. We had a small 10 seater van for the seven of us (5 of us plus guide and driver) to travel from Beijing to this destination. The drive took about 75 minutes as first part of the journey was morning peak hour traffic. We had to disembark our van and took a shuttle bus to the cable car station. The cable car saved us a fair bit of hiking and that was a welcome mode of transport as the weather was incredibly humid and "hot" (32C). Some part of the mountain ranges were misty and foggy(?) to start the morning. The walk from tower to tower was pleasant and not too difficult for most reasonably fit tourists. The surface of the walkway along the Wall was relatively well maintained, not too many missing pavers or uneven holes. It is also relatively easy for children. Once the fog/haze has lifted, it was clear blue sky. For those who are keen walkers, you can take on a longer hike and just spend your day walking. One can also visit the Great Wall at night as the place has lighting set up for the evening/night tour as well. Most of the vegetation on both sides of the Wall are apricots and peaches. The guide has also mentioned about visiting here when the leaves turn yellow/brown/red towards the end of October. Apart from the difference in crowd number here (i.e. less), you would be happy visiting either one of the Wall.

I loved this experience so much !! Everything was organized perfectly. With MUBUS we where guided and we enjoyed the best part of the wall. I want to thank CLAIRE she was a great guide ( she can speak very good English and told us all about the history of the wall)

Excellent trip plan well executed, I can only recommend! Sufficient time to visit both sides (and we were lucky to be there on the day just after festivity and hence very little people). If I were to come here next time, I would: 0) book with these guys, 1) (skip buffet unless you do need to eat) take the cable car to the west sidey and up to tower 20, 2) walk all the way to the east sides tower 1, 3) return back to 6-7 for toboggan ride down. Toboggan can be crowded (even on our lucky day), so take it easy on the first turns and take 30 seconds pause to let the crowd with kids in front of you go further before enjoying the speedy and curvy ride (if you are up for the thrill). Amazing trip. Everything is planned well and carried out effectively. Fred is an outstanding tour guide and gives you the best info and knowledge. Overalll I think its great value for money and booking with Mubus is the best option. I would recommend though trying to visit on a quiet day, it makes the experience much more enjoyable (i.e not during the holiday week or the weekend).

Jily is a very friendly persons. She speaks very good English. She very well explained about the history of great china wall. The bus we travelled was very clean and the packages are very well explained. Very good experience.

Great hike with a great view, just be ready to climb stairs. Went with a bus service called ZANBus, left from downtown Beijing and drove an hour and a half to the Great Wall. They drop you off at the park entrance and you get 5 hours to explore on your own before heading back. For reference, it took me 4 hours to hike the entire length of the park twice. The bus service also had a guide that spoke english. She helped us buy tickets to get into and around the park. Overall a great experience made very hassle-free.

An awesome experience from start to end. Mike was in incredible host. Keeping us all entertained and well informed. Not a dull moment on the trip. Highly recommend the section of the wall itself. Quite a challenging hike. about 800m elevation gain and nearly 6kms. nearly 1000 calories burned on the entire trip. The meal is great for the price as well and highly recommended. The highlight was definitely Mike who goes out of his way to make sure that you're well taken care of and is also very thorough with the information that he gives you. 100% a must do when in Beijing!

Mike was an awesome tour guide, he started out our journey with a historical background on The Great Wall, gave a detailed description of the two tour options for this section of the wall, then followed up with tactics on prioritizing energy expenditure when traversing the wall. The views were excellent and the steps- they are not just numerous, but varied in vertical incline. Energy management is definitely a factor, as well as wearing sunblock on sunny days. Will definitely go again the next time we are in Beijing!

This is a beautiful section of the Great Wall - and a good hike. We had a stunning day which meant we could gaze out over the mountains of China. Mike our tour guide genuinely cared about the Great Wall and encouraged us not just to take ‘the photo’ but grasp the significance and history of the Wall and just drink it all in. He is passionate about what he does and very good at it. Mike is full of life and great stories and a delight to be around.
