I arrived via Nanluoguxiang 南锣鼓巷 Station, lines 6 & 8, visited this hutong and then proceed to Shichahai 什刹海. This stretch of alley was rather quiet, as the majority of local visitors congregate along the touristic Nanluogu south-north alley. I wanted to visit the Wan Rong’s Former Mansion (No. 35 & No. 37) & Keyuan Garden (No. 9). Unfortunately, they were closed, with signs “No visitors allowed”. I suppose they are now private properties.

Excellent, nice environment and the workers here are friendly .good service and really beautiful decorations, convenient subway stations and really responsible boss here.highly recommended to everyone!

Quiet alley

Lovely Hutong, very atmospheric

I stayed in this particular Hutong when in Beijing. It was a lovely taste of what China was like. It is reasonably well trafficked so not completely residential. there are some lovely old properties in the Hutong that are being preserved or are of historical significance due to famous residents having been there etc. There are information plaques detailing some of them which is interesting. The Hutong starts at Nanluoguxiang where it is super busy and there are lots of shops, cafes etc and ends at the Houhai lakes entrance and the subway station at the other end. So its a bit quieter in the middle and busier either end. The whole area is wonderful to explore and offers a more authentic feel compared to the likes of SIlom or other overdeveloped areas. Hopefully they will try and preserve these areas.

Hutong heaven

We enjoyed an afternoon trip to Hutong area getting there on ricks haw. It was an amazing place to visit. We had dinner in MR Lu a famous cricket fighter and he showed us his crickets after the dinner. The movie star dog which lives in his courtyard and the talking birds were also a treat. There is a great market in the Hutong area also. For a view of real life in Beijing visit the Hutong district.

Yes!

The hutongs are the best thing about Beijing. The ones around Mao'er are pretty good. Go and wander around them while you still have the chance!

Great pieces of Beijing history

Great way to spend an afternoon walking around and taking in the history of Beijing Hutongs.

Highly recommend going for lunch or dinner. Though would not go on a Weekend night (Saturday nights was incredibly busy).

Also went a second time on a weekend day and was a lot easier to walk about and take photos.

Both times I took Nanlouguxiang subway exit A and crossed the street and entered - you can't miss it
