About
Aberdeen is known for its floating islands where local fishermen can be seen plying their craft from their junks. It is also home to the floating restaurant, Jumbo. The best way to experience Aberdeen Harbour is to take a cruise tour by sampan.

Quirky
May 2019 • Couples
Had to have a ride on a Sampan while we were here in Hong Kong. Very little English spoken but we found out the price and got in. Just went around the harbour and the ride lasted about 20 minutes.

Authentic.

Dis the sampon ride as part of our big bus ticket. Quirky old boats, seem a bit unsteady as they sail around the harbour. Worth a trip on one if your in the area.

Great meal

Not normally easy to cater for large groups. However, we were very well attended and no one had issues. Food was very good and the staff very helpful.

A unique Hongkong experience
Mar 2018 • Family
The Sampan Boat ride to me is one of the most exciting part of our trip to Hongkong. Seeing those old HK boats called junks is like being transported to early HK society. Riding it is an experience in itself as you see other old fishing boats and the huge Jumbo Floating restaurant.

Glad I did the sampan ride. very interesting to see the floating resturant. you can hop on and off the sampan and the floating resturant if you want a feed. I stayed on and enjoyed seeing all around there and to see how people live on a sampan like a little suburb.

A fun experience, riding a Sampan!
Jul 2017 • Couples
We did this all on our own. Rode the bus down to the pier. Knew what to expect as we crossed the walkway to get to the harbour and a nice elderly lady asked us if we wanted a sampan ride. Since I knew what the going rate was, we did our expected bargaining and agreed on a price and she walked us to our sampan which was most likely driven by her husband. It's a 30 minute ride and that is plenty of time. It was good fun and afterwards we strolled into town and found some really great food at a local place and them took the bus pack. It was a fun afternoon.

Below Average Quality

This was a side trip packaged with our Big Bus tour stopover at Aberdeen, Hong Kong.
Pier boarding was chaotic, individual tour operators (non-BB) jockeying for position to board their group from mainland China ahead of others. Sampan operator steered the boat in a water car park between endless rows of large fishing vessels - not a fishing village anymore. Boat operator said nothing but broke silence at the end to solicit patrons for Jumbo Seafood Restaurant. We did not fall for the trap. Instead, we crossed the road to have a nice meal at one of the local restaurants.

Do not expect too much on this ride.

Floating restaurant
Jun 2016 • Friends
The tranquility of the harbour could not have been better improved than by this picturesque jumbo sized part of Chinese culture. However it can be said that this was not to be equalled by the food served and I left feeling rather dissatisfied. It was to be noticed that the high calibre prestige looking restaurant was not to be equalled by its food which meant that the awe inspiring first opinion was left stained and I was left with a horrible taste in my mouth. I'd recommend the view but not the food.

Not Fishing Season

We really enjoyed the ride and the antics of our driver. Quite a fun place going in and out of the fishing boats. Wish we could visited the floating restaurant. A real treat and would have done it again.

Historic harbour tour provides colorful look at a vanishing way of life
Mar 2016
Hong Kong's bustling Zigang Harbour is historic and well worth a visit. We booked a tour which included a boat ride around the harbour, with splendid sunset views and a fine dinner at the "floating" restaurant. Yes, it floats, but it does not go anywhere, and every couple years it has to be "dry-docked" for cleaning. The restaurant is a vivid, much loved part of local history, with individual banquet rooms booked by locals for anniversaries, graduations, weddings and memorial send-offs. The food is decent, even tasty, but there are many better restaurants in town. There is only one Jumbo, though, and for that reason it's worth a visit. Wander around -- go upstairs and peek in some of the large and small rooms. You'll likely join four to six others as we did, from various parts of the world on various tours. Food is served family style, accommodating both vegetarian and carnivore tastes with the usual nice mix of color and texture we expect in Chinese food. It was our third visit to Jumbo over a 25-year period, and if we're fortunate to return to this lively city, we'll make a fourth pilgrimage. Fun for families, couples, or singles looking to meet fellow travelers.
