If you are a hiking lover you must try
But some weekends it’s vey crowded
Take lot of water and some snacks
Go early to finish early
Avoid very hot and sunny days
Also wet days as it’s slippery

We read about this ahead of time and were recommended to do it by friends of our's. We are in great shape but wow, this was a bit tough! We rode the train to the closest station but couldn't find a taxi, so we walked all the way up and then after, all the way back. The walk up the streets to get to the base of the hike was the hardest part but a good workout. Once you get up there, you go to the left where you see a pagoda lookout area. The trail is clearly marked. There are a lot of steps up, up, and up! It is worth it for the view, though but go expecting it to be tiring. Take plenty of water! We forgot to bring any bug spray and did get several mosquito bites, but they weren't the worst ever. We only crossed paths with a few other hikers on our Thursday afternoon hike. We got water and used the bathrooms before and after in the Temple Mall near the train station. Plan to hydrate and use the bathrooms before you head off. Maybe you'll get lucky and get a taxi to get you up there for a quicker and easier experience, but we didn't. Uber maybe wouldn't worked but we kept thinking a taxi would take us and no one would so we just kept walking! Great view and a great workout before or after a big meal!

I'd put this in the moderate category for difficulty. There's an incline the entire trail and some steeper parts towards the end. Wear proper shoes, bring water and if you're not in shape just plan to take it slow with lots of breaks. The sun was shining the day we went so we expected good visibility but the smog was thick so view was very limited. If you're interested in a workout and doing it more for the outdoors/exercise, you'll enjoy yourself. If you only have a few days in HK and your goal is an epic view, you'll probably be disappointed. I read there's only a few really clear days per year.

As with most hikes in HK, Lion Rock was challenging, and being at the top can be scary, but definitely worth it.

Hike was very strenuous. If you are in less than average shape I don’t recommend it. Views were spectacular!! We also saw monkeys!!

Just a short MTR trip away from the city and such a great place. You can also combine it with the spectacular Wong Tai Sin Temple which is right by the MTR station where you get off. We chose to walk up to the park which takes about twenty minutes before you reach the start of the trail. The trail itself is nice and scenic. It gets steeper the higher you go though so you need a basic level of fitness for this one. But the reward is fantastic views over Kowloon and beyond. Well worth the sweat to get to the top. And if you’re lucky as we were, you get to see the monkeys too.

Hike for only 1-1.5 hours then you can see the spectacular city scenery of Kowloon and a little bit of Hong Kong island, also with the hills as background. Easy hiking trail. If you can only spare one day for hiking in Hong Kong, the Lion Rock is where you should visit.

I arrived on business on Friday and had the Saturday free and wanted to see a different part of Hong Kong. Lions Head is accessible from many different starting points and I chose to start at Lion Rock community garden (15 Chuk Yuen Rd). I took a taxi from my water front hotel for $80 HK and set off.

The start is easy and well maintained but don’t be fooled, after 0.5km the flag stone path gives way to rough paving which then gives way to rough track and a 1.5km set of rough steps.

Beware - in the summer it is hot, I am used to hiking in California weather but here the humidity is draining. I took plenty of water and used it all up in the 1.5 hour 5km hike. It is about a 1300 ft climb in 2.5 km so prepare your self.

Most of the trail is in the shade but the last section was exposed and very hot until I broke out at the top and got a slight very welcome breeze.

The view from the peak is spectacular and probably one of the best in Hong Kong/Kowloon and well worth the effort.

The trail is very well marked and so I chose the same way down but you could choose many different routes.

The hardest part was finding a taxi on the way back, but this is HK and so I walked down the road a little and one came past dropping another hiker!!

Great way to spend and different afternoon from the normal HK. Also look out for the wild monkeys in the trees at the base!

This hike is a great way to escape the city for a morning or an afternoon. It is not very crowded and offers excellent views at the top and along they way. I also had a monkey follow me for a little while until he/she became bored and decided to ditch me. I enjoyed this hike more than any of the typical tourist attractions I saw. Just know that if you’re not accustomed to the heat and humidity, this hike can be a little strenuous at times so make sure you take enough water and perhaps an extra shirt for when you are done. I’m in reasonably good shape, but found myself going slow and taking my time in several areas. Also, there some spots where the stairs a quite steep so make sure you concentrate on the way down because you don’t want to fall. When I got back down I was completely soaked so I decided to take an Uber back to my hotel - totally worth it. I also took the advice of some reviewers and took a taxi from the Won Tai Sin MTR to the start of the trail for 24 HK.
