Neighbourhood: Tsim Sha Tsui
Tsim Sha Tsui is one of the major tourist and shopping areas of Hong Kong. With a high concentration of hotels, retail shops and commercial offices – it’s a busy and bustling neighbourhood that never sleeps. On the surface, Tsim Sha Tsui seems to only feature an abundant number of high-end retail stores selling designer brands and jewelry, owing to its popularity with high-budget shopping tours. However, it also contains a diverse range of attractions for the entire family. Whether taking a walk in Kowloon Park, exploring museums, going shopping or grabbing a bite to eat – Tsim Sha Tsui has something for everyone.

This area is largely reclaimed land on the East side of Chatham Road and a short walk from our hotel. There are many office buildings, hotels and shopping complexes, a feature of the area being pedestrian plazas separating the structures. The promenade starts here and carries through to the old clock tower at the Cultural Centre. Probably not as vibrant as the Tsim Sha Tsui area but more comfortable to visit restaurants and other venues without the hordes.

Reading the other reviews as I have just done, you would think, with my experience living here for two decades, that people reviewing TST East were talking about another city or even another planet.
The local HK Chinese do not ever shop here, and rarely if ever, venture out this way for a family meal. The area of TST East is traditionally a retail dumping ground where the HK-based tours full of mainland visitors bring the punters for shopping grey-market products. The proximity of hotels along the harbourfront attracts retailers seeking the tourist dollar (with overpriced, underqualified products).
The local HK Chinese who frequent this area only do so because there office is located in TST East. This is the textbook example of a tourist trap. I have absolutely no idea why there are so many glowing reviews from others.

This is my 4th trip in hong kong and this time i stayed at tsim sha tsui east area. after browsing through agoda i found mira inn located at tsim sha tsui east train station. this inn is in mirador building, on the 8th floor. Mirador building is an old building, but clean. the caretaker of mira inn is dee zee, a friendly filipino who speaks excellent english. the room is clean and compact.
if u are fond of jennys cookies, you dont hv to go far. jennys cookies is located on the ground floor of mirador building; people queue for the cookies but you dont because u pass by the shop everytime you go out.
there are lots of souvenir shops at mirador building so you dont need to go far to buy hong kong souvenirs. i-square mall is just opposite mirador building; you can shop your groceries, mark and Spencer, body shop etc..

Even though we had been to Hong Kong, we hadn't really been to this part of the city. We had only gotten as far as the clock tower but hadn't gone east of that. This time, our hotel, The Shagri-La was in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui East. In fact, it was only steps away from the Tsim Sha Tsui East MTR station which made travel much more convenient.
We walked back to our hotel from the Star ferry terminal along the promenade and the Avenue of Stars at night and never felt unsafe. Plenty of people out and about. We also were not impacted by the protests, but upon or return home to the US, I turned on the news to see a protest march that had gone through the heart of TST East. You have a much lesser chance of being impacted during the week as most protest activities are on the weekend. You won't want to miss out on this beautiful area of the city on your next visit.

By chance, I found a good hotel around here.
I've been to HK many times but never thought I will find a good hotel here to stay.
If you want to know more of this hotel, need a few clicks to find where did I stay on this trip.

Its difficult to tell where Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) ends and East Tsim Sha Tsui begins so many consider this the same area of Hong Kong. This area between TST and Hung Hom is clearly the smaller and less famous cousin to greater TST. There are not so many attractions here, the best being the excellent HK Museum of History and a good HK Museum of Science, both wedged between East TST and Hung Hom districts, but the number of small streets for shopping and dinning options rival TST and make a for a very good night out. The TST Promenade, which actually begins closer to Hung Hom covers this area as well. There is a nice dinning square in East TST with many western and Chinese restaurants, coffee shops and bars which align to Salisbury Road, allowing quick and easy access to the Avenue of Stars. Many of our guests prefer to eat here as the number of people is much less than in TST proper and the Nathan Road area and there is clearly more space for you to walk in peace.
If you prefer to get away from the chaos on Nathan Road and TST, we recommend moving over a few blocks to the East Tsim Sha Tsui area when you visit Hong Kong. This can be done on the same evening trip to TST in a short 1 to 2 hour visit. Also, we highly recommend a morning trip to the HK Museum of History in this area of Kowloon during a trip to Hong Kong, this museum can take 1-3 hours to visit.

As rents and tastes fluctuate the number of stores selling prescription eyeglass have drastically diminished in this area. My favorite store on Chatham Road closed. After doing some research I remembered the first time I was in Hong Kong 15 years ago and had a good experience with Classy Optical. I went out to find their new location at 77 Peking Road. For a optical store to be in this competitive business speaks for itself. I have a very difficult and strong prescription and the real attraction of purchasing glasses in Hong Kong is that they do not have U.S. restrictions so my glass from Hong Kong do not look like Coke bottles. Because I do have a difficult prescription, I told the owner to send me the glasses in the U.S. rather than try a famous Hong Kong two day special. I received my three pair February 2nd, less than a week and a half after ordering. They are perfect and the lenses are thin. I will say the prices are not cheap for a prescription like mine. However if you have more than one pair, or want to buy frames, I would negotiate a discount. I successfully did. Better to negotiate with the owner, the salespeople are on commission. Classy Optical really did a wonderful job and I will be returning.

Just walk around and check out life in downtown. Lots of malls/shops that suit all budgets. Only problem is yours trying to get you to buy tailored suits or massages...just ignore and enjoy the best side of Hong Kong

TST East - east of the station and along Mody Road - there are some interesting shops and malls and places for tourists. A bit neglected. It is still crowded but not so overpriced it seems.
Also useful for access to the harboutr walk - there are some quiet sections of the harbour which are relatively free of tourists still with a nice view of the island.
Big choice of hotels in Mody road, and footbridges across to the harbour walk. Shops for just about anything you want to buy. Even the moneychangers seem to have good rates. Plus a bit of seedy nightlife if you want it after dark.
Keep it a secret.....

Hi, are we able to do a run at the harbour area? Is there a straight route?
Also is there any nice cafe or restaurant nearby Grand standford?
Written 17 March 2017
Certainly you can walk or run around, though may not be a really straight and long distance. There are also many big and small restaurants, cheap or expensive, providing different tastes for you to choose.

Any recommendation of good restaurant in Nathan Road esp the roast goose n pigeon n high tea ? Where to get the tourist pass someone mention n what's the advantage of this pass?
How to book the Harbour cruise with dinner?
Thx

Hi I didn't have any diner on the boat. The only thing I suggest is to visit as many islands as you can because they are all very different.

Hi There! I'm planning my holiday to Hong Kong in the month of September around last week. I have read about the reviews and found this hotel a nice deal! Can any one help me if I do a booking at the Kowloon bay or Hong Kong Island side? I prefer a hotel stay with nice serene and skyline view along with excellent connectivity to get around the tourist places.
I'm planning for a 3 night stay.
Hope to hear from you and 'm able to make a right choice.
Thanks
Ashish

(1) age of kids?
Is this trip for the kids , eg Disneyland, Ocean park,
(2) for family(could be strenuous)the golden Budda.
Visit the Science technology museum..
Harbour cruise at nite( meal included, and watch the
(3) the light show .
(4) get lost in Harbour city whilst shopping
(5) take the cable car to the Peak and view from the highest view.
Hotel, stay on the main drag, in the busy parts of the city, as transport to and from the attractions is readily available and not too expensive.
Get a TOURIST PASS for all, it is easier to use and convenient
Hope this is of some help for you.
