The area
Neighbourhood: Sheung Wan
Unlike most of Hong Kong’s other popular districts, Sheung Wan welcomes wanderers with an easy-going, relaxed atmosphere. Art galleries are plentiful and boutique cafés are tucked away in every side street in the sub district known as “PoHo.” Browse through the vintage clothing and handmade leather goods stores – it’s no surprise fashionistas flock to this area. History enthusiasts will be rewarded with sites of beautiful architecture, reflecting Sheung Wan’s past as one of the earliest settlements by British forces. As night falls, the entertainment scene reveals itself to be just as laid back with its private kitchens, speakeasies and underground bars dotted throughout the area. When in Sheung Wan, everyday feels like the weekend.
How to get there
  • Sheung Wan • 4 min walk

Wingman PMQ (at PMQ Taste Kitchen), claims to have the “best chicken wings in town”..... that’s quite a tall claim for anybody to make! 👑
But I tried five of their flavors....AND THE VERDICT—> Yes Sir!😋
I might’ve broken my personal record for most wings eaten!🌟THIRTY WINGS (five flavors...six wings of each flavor).... and I could still down a milkshake at another joint later...👍🏻.

The only SAD part is they plan to operate for a LIMITED TIME ONLY☹️...at the moment it looks like till the end of Jan-2019.But I HOPE they receive a great response during this TRIAL RUN so that they decide to set up shop on a permanent basis.

CALIFORNIA STYLE WINGS with RAW GARLIC & PARSLEY were my favorite (pictured above). The garlic and parsley came out strong in the first bite and that’s what I loved (garlic flavor works great on any food I guess)😍. This one was the HERO of the menu.... (Metaphorically speaking....the perfect VILLAIN could be the next flavor that I tried - CAROLINA REAPER WINGS.... coz it was SOOOOOOO SPICY🌶 🥵 ... and of course delicious too!!)

CAROLINE REAPER WINGS had a spicy level of 4 out of 5...... so BEWARE .... and better be ready to wipe that sweat from your forehead 😅😅.

The other three flavors were AWESOME in their own right.... but I guess they can be overshadowed by the California wings and Carolina Reaper wings. The other three flavors I tried 😋- WINGS with BBQ DRY RUB;
CAJUN STYLE DRY RUB WINGS;
HOISIN HONEY GLAZED AND SESAME WINGS.

PMQ - an old police dormitary turned into a shopping heaven for whole family, the men will luv it as there are cafes and bar around even if they dislike shopping

From clothings to merchandise made by local designers (like roasted duck turned into foldable tote bag) to world-renowned labels, some brands are not available in any malls or venues in hK except here! Men would like to look at its range of leather products bags/watches to shoes
Japanese fans can be wow-ed too
Worth mentioning, there is a shop that made soap/essences, it allowed you to custom-make your own handsoap wash (not those bar soap) also!!!!

Even if you worried that it might burn a hole at your pocket, just go for their free exhibitions on photos, board games and various themes scattering all around this large old dormitory!

Although PMQ is very centrally located, it’s not on the normal tourist radar. However it’s a good place for unique souvenirs and indie style shops. There are a number of local fashion labels and home-grown local brands. There are jewellery designers, some of who you can watch at work, and artisans making leather goods. It was planned as a creative hub and has attracted design studios and workshops. There is also a foodie aspect, with the ABC cooking school, sake tasting, a beautiful bread shop, and a couple of spots to eat and a bar.
It’s a quirky sort of shopping venue because it’s all located inside what was once the old Hollywood Road Police Married Quarters (a Grade III historic site). It has retained all the original structure and layout so each shop or studio is in one of the original units.
If like me, you are interested in the history, this building was the first one to provide residences for married police officers and their families. There were 140 single room units and 28 double room units. No-one could say that it’s an attractive building. Built in 1951, it’s utilitarian and austere but it doesn't take much imagine to wonder what life was like for these families living so closely together in compact units in this compound. If walls could only talk… The last families moved out around 2005 and it stood empty for almost 10 years until work began to revitalise the building and create this arts and design centre. It now has an interesting, cool feel about it and is worth a visit.
NOTE: There is a PMQ Info Centre where you can pick up a free guide with more information and some discount coupons.

PMQ is the former Police Married Quarter facility on Hollywood Rd. and Aberdeen Street which has been renovated into a commercial zone for creative industries and modern lifestyle experiences. PMQ was reopened this past summer and has been a hit locally and with visitors during its first 6 months.

At PMQ you will a few brand name retailers mixed with smaller Hong Kong based brands and small retail businesses. This makes for a unique blend of businesses and interesting array products lines that is quite dissimilar to the conventional Hong Kong shopping mall.

PMQ features art, fashion, children's clothing, photography, stationary, accessories, gift shops, bakeries, cupcake shops, making a refreshing change from the Hong Kong shopping malls which are now dominated by high-end international brand names and luxury shops.

During the past summer, PMQ kicked off with a very interesting 1600 pandas exhibitions that was a smashing hit locally and drawing much attention to new PMQ. Since that time, we have been quite impressed with their efforts to create a unique environment and experience, especially around the seasonal holidays.

During October, there were Halloween decorations aplenty and shops did a great job of contributing to the fun atmosphere. This Christmas has been no different. We recently spend almost 4 hours going through the various shops, which occupy 6 and 7 floors of the two separate building blocks at PMQ.

Overall, we have been very pleased with PMQ so far and we greatly look forward to seeing what they line up of the Chinese New Year holiday early next year. At the moment this represents a genuinely unique shopping and leisure experiences in Hong Kong and an enjoyable place to spend time.

This place is a must visit when you are in Hong Kong. It caters to a less touristy crowed and features many artistic & fashionable boutiques. Here you can find a range of tasteful clothing, handmade jewelry, modern art, & a variety of home decor. This is a great place to buy tasteful souvenirs. PMQ is walkable from Hollywood Road & is easily accessible. This building has two major buildings connected by the ground level & a 4th floor park. You can spend hours here wandering through all the various boutiques. We ended up purchasing beautiful handmade trays, candles, framed art & glassware for our home. If you need a mid-day drink, they also have a sake shop with sake tastings offered! In addition to that, they have restaurants located on the ground & basement floor. They also have numerous bakeries and coffee shops throughout PMQ

PMQ has a lovely history spin for those who cares a walk into the past. For most others, it is a chance to pick up some shopping with the local designers community. If you spend time walking the shops (starting from the top floors), it will be good for at least half a day ). I come here with every visit to Hong Kong in the recent years and will always leave with shopping bags in my hands. :)

When you’ve had your fill of the knock offs and touristy stuff from the street markets, treat yourself to a visit here! So many unique and original goodies to peruse by talented designers and artists. Saw great clothes, jewelry, purses, pottery, and art. Bought stuff for gifts AND myself!! Allow yourself at least a couple of hours to browse as there are multiple floors. There is also food there when you need a tasty break.

Arrived at PMQ Saturday at 11.45am and only a handful of shops open. Business owners, do you even want to make any money?
