Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The palace is a location of deep historical significance, particularly in the 19th and 20th centuries - Taiping rebellion, Sun-Yat Sen, etc. It is not a palace in the imperial sense, more like a compound of many buildings from several eras. There is some English signage, but many of the interesting-looking exhibits were only in Chinese. Not being able to read the information makes appreciating Chinese history very difficult. We looked at getting an audio guide but could not find one.

We arrived at 2:30pm on Tuesday 8/04/2020. No more tickets available. This is probably due to Covid-19. We got in on Wednesday by showing up at 9:30am. Americans need their passport and their health code (suikang) to get in.

The palace is important for the collective memory of Chinese people, as it refers to their post-imperial decades. The explanation in English was good, but at the information desk is was very poor. We had this experience everywhere in this town.

This is the presidential palace of Sun Yat-sen and Chiang Kai-shek during the KMT rule up to 1959 before retreating to Taiwan.
Despite it being the called the presidential palace, it is anything but palatial. It now houses the China Modern History Museum, and it is worthwhile visiting to gain a better understanding of China.
However, just like many parts of Nanjing, it is undergoing major renovations especially to the main entrance area (as of December 2017). The 11 exhibition halls still in its original condition.
Well worth a visit!

I was surprised to discover that this place is reminiscent of the Forbidden City in Beijing as well as having historical buildings from the 20th century. I was also surprised at how crowded it was, even on a very rainy day in March. We spent a couple of hours here and would have stayed longer if we hadn't been so damp, bedraggled and cold. Well worth a visit, and particularly so to learn about the birth of the Republic of China and the period before the People's Republic came into being.

Didn't think this was anything special. Some of the buildings were just rooms with tables and chairs in them with no other props. Seeing old offices was OK. Gardens were small. I think you need to be into recent Chinese history to appreciate a visit. Would have probably gotten more out of it if had a tour guide since little information is in English.
1912 a pedestrian walk place with lots of restaurants is close by if you need lunch.

Of all the places I visited in Nanjing, this was, to my surprise, the best of the lot. I arrived early in the morning so there weren't too many tourists there, and I found the place to be very relaxing, and steeped in history. You can walk the same corridors of power that were trodden by Chinese political luminaries such as Sun Yat-Sen and Chiang Kai shek, and look into the same meeting rooms where they held fort all those years ago. Outside each room is an explanation of what the room was used for, along with a photograph taken when the rooms were being used by these same people. Walking around the place really does make it easy to imagine the atmosphere during those turbulent times in the first half of the 20th century.
An ideal way to spend a couple of hours and escape the heat and the hordes outside.

It is more of an office building with a big garden surrounding it which is well kept. Not a big area and one can complete the tour within two hours or so but you have to pay (RMB 40 or 20 for senior of 60+) to enter. It is close to downtown area and subway station and after that one can walk to Ming Palace (a small Palace) and the Nanjing Museum which are free to enter.

First Up you need a valid ID to buy tickets (Passports in other words), Nothing inside screams out presidential Palace to me Just a Large residence area. with a garden and small gift shops. Its pretty boring and you should spend most of your nanjing time doing other acticties or gardens rather than this place. Its basically a Garden with a small museum section. There are baggage storage areas inside if your doing this before you leave NKG.
