Beautiful day out in the nature

This place is great to get away from the city for a while, actually its very close to the city center, about 20 minutes taxi drive. Be ready to climb a lot of stairs though!

Not good to go there on cloudy weather since you do not see nanjing city from top when it is cloudy.

The mountain is big and full of many attractions. I did not hike up the mountain due to the unfavourable weather and was more interested in visiting the attractions instead. The mountain can be easily accessed via the subway- Muxuyuan (line2). The ticket counter could be found at the exit point on the ground level. My trip was entirely based... More

There are a series of spots and attractions in the Purple Mountain area and some shuttle buses to take you between locations as well. The most impressive spot is the Dr Sun Yat-Sen's Mausoleum. Climb the mountain along the stairs and the mausoleum is on the top. I went there with cold and moist air. It was filled with a... More

Climb the mountain by foot, or by one of the electrical mini-buses for 10 RMB. The walk in this sub-tropical forest, lots of Bamboo trees, tiny water streams, and the Mausoleum at the top. You don't have to climb all the stairs to the top, but if you like parks and history, do visit purple mountain.

The Purple Mountain area of Nanjing contains a plethora of scenic spots and tourist attractions. Once you are in the park area it's worth purchasing a ticket for the small shuttle buses to take you between locations. Here is the problem, if you are not too confident in taking public transport and choose to take a taxi, you will find... More

You can buy a combines ticket at the gate. We caught a taxi up there due to limited time and it was very cheap. Best time is autumn, was a bit hot in September. Lots of walking involved from each attraction so not for the unfit. Some stairs and uneven ground so not wheelchair friendly.

Want to have a walk uphill, see some views of the city (if pollution allows), an astronomical observatory, nature, a Ming dynasty tomb, a mausoleum and much more? Then spend a day there. I was not aware it was so full of things and I discovered one after another. I am afraid I have missed some, but I strongly recommend... More

The Purple Mountain area probably requires 4-6 hours depending on just how much you want to see. It has some lovely nature and architecture that should not be missed.
