Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

First time trying Indonesia 🇮🇩 fast train from Cirebon to Jakarta. Nice three hours, working chatting in half empty coach. Arriving in Gambir on time and walking to the hotel. Train station busy after seven in the evening, possibility to eat and shop, ATMs, taxi and buses 🚍

Its a main rail station in jakarta ,very clean ,quite modern ,food and mini mart outlets ,easy to buy tickets at the station but some trains can be busy ,beware the taxi hawkers as you come oit ,always use bluebird taxis ,very easy to get many places from here ,the trains are a little old but punctual and clean ,pay the bit extra for executive rather than economy,

It is ludicrous that this, the main station for long distance departures from Jakarta, is not accessible by the local train system. Local trains pass through without stopping. This means getting off the local train at Gondangdia station and taking a taxi or a long hot walk to Gambir. I can see the reasoning: local and main line trains use different ticketing systems so passengers mingling would create problems. The problem is entirely one of KAI's making. There are two island platforms. Local trains whizz through on the two center lines while main line trains wait on the outer two lines. If one island platform, say lines 1 and 2 was dedicated to local trains and the other to main line trains it would be easy to segregate the passengers and avoid ticketing confusion.

We used Gambir Station as a starting point for a journey to Bandung which I booked online with Traveloka.
The station was clean, with lots of food outlets (untried) and (according to my husband) very clean restrooms with a staff member on duty to keep up maintenance.
Automated self-service check-in to print boarding passes took a little effort to work out, but were fine in the end (once the difference between "0" and "O" in the booking number was sorted!).
I was able to change our return booking from Bandung to Jakarta at the "cancellation counter" while we were waiting.
A local helped me to get a ticket to secure my place in the queue, and to complete the form required (in Bahasa) to change the booking.
Security was efficient with tickets checked against passports and COVID vaccination status also checked.
It was easy to access the platform via escalators.
We travelled very comfortably to Bandung in Executive Class on a very long train and were cool, calm, and collected on arrival. It was good to have muti-lingual announcements on the train too (which didn't happen on the Bndung-Gambir leg).
We had an equally pleasant and scenic return journey.
The "downers": It would be good to have at least one of the escalators from the platform level set to go DOWN to the next level. It's a bit difficult traversing stairs with luggage.
Travellers also need to be aware that "Bluebird Taxis" have a waiting area a bit off to the left of the station exit. Lots of touts are at the exit door and the taxis parked opposite the exit are way over-priced.

We got the train from Gambir station to Bandung. The train is very comfortable, air-conditioned and very spacious. The seats are in rows of 2 and recline back. There is a toilet on the train and they serve food and drinks. Our 3 Euro journey cost approx 12 Euro each.

It's one of big , comfortable, citycenter train station , where you can get on,off intercity train to anywhere on jVa island ans commuter trains to connect whole jakarta metropolitan. The station itself has 3 storeys with lifts and escalators, restaurant, waiting area are spacious. Toilets are superclean. When walking pass the exit door, there are taxistand, that you can take on metered taxi without scam. And you can walk out to the main street to take becak, ojek or transjakarta bus station. It's next to monas monument in the merdeka square public park.
