This is one of several museum offerings in the kraton area. The museum kareta kraton features a collection of royal carriages, as well as the various uniforms and tools required to operate them.

I’ve recorded that the entrance fee here was 30000 per person but I’m not sure if that’s correct. Anyway it’s not a particularly large sum of money anyway.

It took about 45 minutes to go through here. The carriages all had information boards with Indonesian and English translations so self guided tours were fine. The content however did get a bit repetitive after a while as once you’ve seen one carriage you’ve kind of seen them all. There was a couple of interactive games and photo boards for the kids which felt a bit out of place.

I passed by this place on the way to the Taman Sari. Entrance is cheap RP5000 plus RP1000 for photo permit, i.e. total of about 42 cents US.

It was small place, so it would not take long to view all the exhibits. Some of the exhibits were partially draped with white cloth.

Since they are museum exhibits, the drapes should have been removed.

Just a small museum housing a single theme, the Sultan's coaches. A couple of dozen from various periods of history and varying from quite plain and functional to more ostentatious examples for formal occasions. For just R15000 worth the 10 minutes.

Our trip we started with 1 tour guide to take us around and tell us all the histories about the chariot. Quite romantic I would say. The complex also kept traditional clothes from 1 king to another. Interesting that Chinese has been in Indonesia long long time ago and become part in Royal family.

Love history....
