Description:

The Palawan Butterfly Ecological Garden and Tribal Village is a place that...

The Palawan Butterfly Ecological Garden and Tribal Village is a place that reflects the mesmerising beauty of a province that is known as the "Last Frontier of the Philippines". It showcases a sheer variety or tropical butterflies from the Southern region of the country. These free flying butterflies are surrounded with live exhibits of scorpions, green-crested lizards, phasmid and mantises which are considered their natural predators. It is a window to the natural ecology of these colourful insects. Another added attraction are the rescued endemic wildlife of Palawan. These animals are given the chance of a second life by being rescued from poachers and wouldn't have survived in the wild because of the probability of suffering the same fate all over again. Like the Palawan Peacock Peasant and the Palawan Bearcat, these animals are now ambassadors of their own species in the wild. By educating the public about these wild yet gentle creatures the facility promotes public awareness about how our actions as human beings can affect greatly everything in our environment.

We visits the butterfly garden with the expectation of seeing butterflies only. We were very surprised to find out that we were given an extremely friendly guide of the attraction. In addition to the butterfly garden, I think the best part was the cultural experience after the butterflies. They have local families from up in the mountain regions come and... More

Visiting zoos in Asia is often disappointing, but this was one of the better ones I visited. The butterflies were colourful and there were only a couple of larger animals in cages, so nothing much to offend the visitor. If you have been in Puerto Princesa a long time and am running out of things to do, place this one... More

Very nice little place and well worth dropping in if you're on route to the chocolate hills or river lunch. The guides are funny and well informed and there's lots to learn about the butterflies and moths of Bohol. Toilets are clean and there's a restaurant.

Even if your not particularly interested in butterflies this place is worth a visit. As you get to be up close and personal with some local wildlife not just butterflies and you get to see and meet some local tribes people who tell you abit about their home life. It's not expensive to visit and you can spend as little... More

The place isn't that big but they have lots of butterflies as well as a few other animals (e.g. Millipedes) The staff there do a good job of explaining things. There is also a presentation by some of the local tribes. Which was quite interesting. I was very impressed with the accuracy of their blow dart demonstrations. It's a fun... More

We visited this place as part of our City Tour of Puerto Princesa. While walking through the enclosed garden for the butterflies was enjoyable...the entire visit was rushed and felt chaotic as more vans were unloading other tourists. The guide that showed off the various insects and reptiles on display for visitors was lovely and provided a very rapid explanation... More

Apart from Butterflies, some other local animals, plus a visit to the tribal village, all in all a good experience and probably the only worthwhile attraction in Puerto Princesa, Try the Iwahig prison as well, not for faint hearted

I did not remember the butterflies, they're very few and the tour isn't educational unlike in Bohol. But what I enjoyed and remembered was the Palau-an tribe culture -sharing. The speaker is quite good. We also had pictures with the tribe.
