The area
Neighbourhood: Marina Bay
More of a mini city than a neighbourhood in the traditional sense, the iconic Marina Bay aims to dazzle and entertain visitors of all kinds. This is the Singapore found in glossy brochures, featuring a world-class hotel, casino, shops, restaurants, bars, and other attractions all geared towards pure entertainment. The SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands provides a stunning view of the city, a must-see photo opportunity for visitors and locals alike. The ArtScience Museum always has a top-quality exhibition, and Gardens by the Bay is a fascinating manifestation of the government’s vision of Singapore as a “city in a garden”. Enticing Marina Bay is well worth a visit.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The philanthropist Tan Kim Seng donated a sum of $13000 in 1857 to built Singapore's first fresh water reservoir, the Impounding Reservoir. The reservoir was renamed The Thomson Road Reservoir in 1907 and finally was changed again to MacRitchie Reservoir in 1922 after James MacRitchie, the Municipal Engineer.
The Tan Kim Seng Fountain was erected in 1882 in Fullerton Square to honor his donations for the Singapore’s first reservoir and waterworks.
In 1925, it was moved to this present location at the Esplanade Park. It was made by Andrew Handyside & Co from England and the Victorian-style iron fountain has three tiers and is decorated with classical figures. It was last restored in 1994.
The Tan Kim Seng Fountain was gazetted as a national monument in 2010.

Fountain opened in 1882 to commemorate the philanthropy of Tan Kim Seng in providing funds for fresh water in Singapore.
The fountain was originally near the Fullerton Hotel but was moved to its present location at a later date. No makers mark but looks like the work of Mcleland of Glasgow. Worth a look if your passing.

Friday 25th October and we visited Esplanade Park where this small fountain is located.
This fountain was erected in 1882 in honor of Tan Kim Seng, a Chinese philanthropist, to acknowledge his contribution to Singapore’s first reservoir and waterworks.
It is supposedly one of the oldest fountains in Singapore.
Although the fountain is nothing out of the ordinary, it combines with other attractions nearby to make the place interesting and worth a visit.
Have rated the Fountain, on it's own as "average", however other factors combined make the area well worth a visit.
The Civilian War Memorial, the Cenotaph, St Andrew's Cathedral, Lim Bo Seng Memorial and Esplanade Park are all near by (all reviewed separately on Tripadvisor).

This is a fountain in Esplanade Park. It is one of three memorials in the park that have been considered National Monuments since 2010.

This decorative fountain (which looks like it could do with a little more TLC) was dedicated to Tan Kim Seng who was responsible for bringing the supply of freshwater to Singapore in 1857. Unveiled in 1882 the fountain used to be the centre piece in Fullerton Square but was moved to Esplanade park in 1925. It has the head of Neptune, 4 Muses and Cupid's as decorative figures and is finished in white and pale blue. Worth a look if passing by and you have 5 minutes to spare but not worth a special trip.
