Coastal Walk with much to see
Oct 2020
I started my walk at Alexandra Garden Trail followed by the 960m Berlayer Creek mangrove boardwalk before reaching the short 330m Bukit Chermin Boardwalk. Berlayer Creek mangrove boardwalk is just next to the Labrador MRT station and allows easy accessibility to a walk beside a mangrove swamp, There are a few look-out points along this boardwalk to observe the surrounding mangroves and get closer to the rich biodiversity. This creek is home to a myriad of flora and fauna such as fourteen species of true mangrove plants and giant mudskippers. At the end of the Berlayer Creek boardwalk, turning left continues to Bukit Chermin Boardwalk. Bukit Chermin boardwalk is an elevated boardwalk built on the sea along the coastal foothill of Bukit Chermin. Bukit Chermin is a small 28m high hill next to Keppel Harbour. House number 30 is the grandest and largest of four existing Black and White bungalows in Bukit Chermin. It can easily be seen from the boardwalk. The view from the boardwalk is fantastic such as the distant Sentosa Island, coastline of Labrador Nature Park and the wonderful architecture of Reflections by Keppel Bay. As it is not shaded, the walk is best enjoyed in the morning or evening or wheh the weather is cool and cloudy. From boardwalk, it continues seamlessly to Reflections Promenade and Carribean Promenade. Crossing the 245m Keppel Bay Bridge (opened in 2008) will lead to Keppel Island which is privately owned. There are F&B outlets on the island which is opened to the piblic. THe bridge has dual pedestrain walkways with interesting information boards at regular intervals. The Marina on Keppel Island with its dock, full of boats, effuses a contemporary and swanky ambience. The walking path stops at Coral Promenade at the present and so to reach Harbourfront MRT station, just walk along Keppel Bay Drive and it is a short walk to the mrt station. This walk took me about an hour and I thoroughly enjoyed it as the weather was great on that day.

View of a grand black and white house from the boardwalk
Mar 2021
Bukit Chermin in Malay means Mirror Hill. Its name is due to the clearness of the water in the bay. It is only 28 m high.
Admiral Sir Henry Keppel discovered the deep water anchorage in this bay and initiated the development of the New Harbour. In honour of his contributions to the area, New Harbour and New Harbour Road were renamed Keppel Harbour and Keppel Road respectively, in 1900.
Only four black and white houses remains on Bukit Chermin. Nos 20, 22 & 24 are typical of Black & White houses built by the colonial government in the early 1900s. These feature a masonry base elevating the house from the tropical damp, with the rest of the house built with half-timbered construction.
House No 30 is the grandest and the largest of the four existing bungalows on Bukit Chermin. it is called the Admiral's House. It is situated on Bukit Chermin promontory and looks out across to Sentosa. it dates from around 1915. It may be built as an impressive residence for the Harbour Master. The verandah on the second floor is cooled by the sea breezes and offers a commanding views over the western approaches to Keppel Harbour.

Coastal Walk

The Bukit Chermin Boardwalk provides a fantastic shoreline shortcut between Labrador Park & Nature Reserve and the Marina at Keppel Bay! It’s also a great place to spot Collared Kingfishers!

Short boardwalk
Jan 2019 • Solo
The boardwalk can be accessed from Labrador Park MRT station via the Berlayer Creek Boardwalk, and on to Labrador Park. The eastern end of the boardwalk finishes at Keppel Bay and can be accessed by walking from Vivo City. The boardwalk is an excellent place to view coastal vegetation and numerous large trees line the banks, although the boardwalk itself is unshaded (wear a hat!) and can get very hot. Views of the harbour are superb so worth the effort to get out here and do Berlayer Creek (tidal inlet with mangroves) at the same time. A lot of people were using it for jogging when I was there.

Nice offshore walkway
Sep 2018 • Solo
This nice new offshore walkway stretches from the little bridge to Keppel island (next bus stop Carribbean at Keppel Bay) to the Labrador Nature Reserve (next MRT CC27 Labrador Park). Very nice views of Keppel Bay, Liebeskinds Reflections complex, and Keppel island.
