Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lots of red, golden and yellow colours. Lots of stuff to buy, remember to bargain! Food Street has excellent small kiosk restaurants where you can eat excellent food. Very typical tourist attraction but at the same time unique experience. A world of its own. Worth visiting!

I got suckered. Plain and simple. I was not looking for a suit and then I got approached by a guy who was pleasant enough and eventually convinced me to go and look for a new custom suit. I did, I paid, more than I had planned and the clothes turned out to be a disaster of cut, finish, quality and more. The name of the place that you want to avoid at all costs is Royal Myers Jewellers & Trading and you can spot it at No.9 Trengganu in Chinatown. Avoid your own disappointments, stay away and tell your friends to do the same.

Beware of shopping in People's Complex. There's a company, not sure it exists in books, called "Elvis Amber instyle" and they claim to sell silk duvets which are actually polyester duvets.

This man is less than honest and has no conscience at all. Carefully watch his over inflated prices and lying spiel to suck you in, be carefull of his strategically placed finger over the price when signing your credit card receipt and watch how the paperwork is sealed in an envelope when handed to you, he then has a minion whisk you quickly off to the to the Gold Factory before you check the transaction. Also for obvious reasons he is very reluctant to accept cash....he would get caught out with his slight of hand.
NOT A NICE MAN WATCH HIM VERY CAREFULLY OR BETTER STILL AVIOD HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE

It was a surprise for me an exceptional and unexpected surprise, I never thought to find a neighborhood so animated and lively, a very picturesque touristic but frankly I really liked the style of terraced houses, each of them colorful and very showy a context delicious.
Walking through these streets you have the chance to do good business, but also to find those foods that can be found only here, for example, I was attracted by the very good but not so famous Soursop juice, well here I found it at just S$ 2.
A visit around the Chinatown Street Market takes approximately 1 hour or so, but it is a must to visit.

The Chinatown street market encompasses four main streets which include Pagoda, Temple, Smith and Sago streets and narrow lanes with an endless variety of tourist style stalls.
Tt is easy to spend several hours here shopping for bargains, although many cheap souvenirs are most abundant.
There is also plenty of pastries, several restaurants and cafes to indulge your taste buds along Chinatown Food Street.

Me and my wife visited the Chinatown Street Markets in Jan 2014.
The Chinatown Light-up before the Chinese New Year is the most vibrant period for Chinatown every year. The Decorations in Chinatown Area coupled with the Chinese New Year Decorations put up for sale by the Street Market Vendors really brightens up the whole of Chinatown. There were more than 70% of the Street Market Stalls selling Chinese New Year Decorations and Traditional Chinese Food Stuff like Pastries, Cookies, Tit-bits, Candies, Dried Fruits, Nuts, BBQ Pork Slice, Chinese Sausage, etc. Most of the Stalls were selling similar items at very competitive prices so as to lure customers to their stalls. There are many Eateries and Restaurants around Chinatown offering a wide range of food to cater for your choice of meal.
On my day of visit, the Streets in Chinatown were jammed pack with locals and tourists. There were many locals doing some serious last minute shopping for the Chinese New Year while the tourists were simply enjoying and soaking in the Festive Atmosphere.
We enjoyed visiting the Chinatown Street Markets just before the Chinese New Year every year as this is the period when you can see Chinatown at its Best.

I had just spent the entire day at Universal Studios, advising my cousin to hold up on buying souvenirs until we got to Chinatown. We're so glad we did. 36 keychains for S$10, with tons of other things selling for S$4 each or 3 for S$10. Cheap food, drinks, cheap everything.
We took the MRT to the Chinatown station, and followed signs for Pagoda Street. Upon emerging from the subway, we were greeted by bright red and yellow lanterns, the smell of durian and other food cooking, and a cacophony of sounds.
A few tips:
- Take your time walking around. Not all the pricing is uniform and you may find some items cheaper at other stores.
- Walk all the way to the end of Pagoda Street and take a peek at the Sri Mariamman Temple next door, the oldest Hindu Temple in Singapore.
- Bring CASH!!! The one store I attempted to use my credit card for said the machine was "broken."
- After a few hours of shopping, stop for a traditional Foot Massage at the Chinatown Heritage Center. 40 minutes for only S$26. When I went, I was the only customer. Not a luxury spa by any means, but the therapist was extremely skilled. If you want a nicer place, Kenko Spa is a couple of blocks over for more than twice the price.
Enjoy!

How much is the most expensive/ cheapest kimono in China town?
Written 16 October 2022
Hi what’s the average price for a meal and also beers please.
Written 21 February 2019
Average meal is about S$3.50 upwards in a hawker centre. I believe a bottle of tiger beer is around S$6.50
If you eat in a restaurant, it will be much higher because it includes GST and service charge.
If you plan to eat at Chinatown Hawker Centre, please note that the place will be closed for renovation from 1 March 2019 till May 2019.
Hope the above information helps.

Hi, can anyone tell me the best time to visit the markets in Chinatown and what time to they (and the general shops/malls) in the area close? Thanks!
Written 4 September 2015
Generally all tourists come here so there is no fixed time as such. The market might be open till 9pm I guess.
Written 5 September 2015
I don't remember seeing any fake bags there. Mainly tourist things, fridge magnets, clothing, plates etc. For fake bags you are better of going to Indonesia of Thailand.
