It is always nice to consider Singapore's colonial history when in the country. Next year (2015) will be the 50th year of Singapore's independence from Malaysia so big celebrations will be commencing then. The Raffles landing site is of course dedicated to Sir Stamford Raffles...More

Sir Stamford Raffles was founder of Singapore, so this is historical statue in little square right by the river. Worth of pics, but beware of fake monks, who will come to you asking money to their monastery etc. We saw them 3 times near this...More

Raffles supposedly landed first on St. John's Island. This "landing" site might thus be symbolic of a secondary landing (and a location where more people would visit, and see a statue, than the St. John's Island site). Anyway - should you visit this site? Probably...More

The Good =) ~This landmark is installed as a memory-keepsake. The Bad =( ~This area requires walking in the sun, unbearable for those afraid of heat. My Tip for future visits: ~Skip this site.

Tip: Asian civilization museum is really interesting (student discount $4). This is a nice area to take a walk, it has a good view of the river and skyline. It's interesting the mix between new big building and small colonial style houses. But that's it....More

Lot's of work going on around this landmark. I love the buildings that are on the way to Raffles landing site. Every time I walk to the landing site I start from Raffles hotel and walk straight down to the dock. It's a great way...More
