Playa Venado Farm is a dairy farm that opens its doors to tourists and locals alike who wish to enjoy breathtaking landscapes of Chile’s southern farmlands on the shores of Lake Llanquihue while learning about the process of milk production and preparation of gourmet manjar (caramel milk spread) on the premises. Located on Route 225 to Ensenada, and only 16 km from downtown Puerto Varas, the farm is surrounded by rolling fields overlooking the lake and the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes. The dairy cows of Danish Jersey origin are milked daily to provide the basic ingredient in the preparation the traditional homemade recipe of delicious manjar of the highest quality. This farm stands out for its good field management practices, a proper milking routine, sound animal health management, rigorous hygiene standards and special care for the environment.Visitors can tour the facilities of the milking shed, calf barn and feeding patio; learn about production inside the small processing plant, taste freshly made manjar and purchase products in the souvenir shop. This is a delicious opportunity to live an experience that combines the best of our southern farms with the sweetest of our traditional Chilean confections.

Our friends from @cookingroots took us here to see the natural enviroment on which the cows are grown. Great place for children because they can feed the cows. They offer a great quality of cheese and dairy products.

We went with our 2 year old, and he loved the tour of the farm, getting to see the big cows, and then had the chance to feed the baby cows. Then they showed us around the operations and where the make manjar and cheese - followed by samples :-) Fun outing only 20 minutes from Puerto Varas.

It was good Manjar de Campo, and the cheese was as good as any in the region. Yet over-advertised as a destination. Walk past some open windows on barns, and past fields with cows and sheep, toward the store itself. The store is a small space with a couple of display cases of goods, and nothing to sample. Perhaps it... More

We did this on a whim and were so happy we did. It was informative and fun. Even having grown up in contact with a jersey dairy farm, my mother learned things. Our six-year-old enjoyed feeding the calves and taking the manjar. Their products are truly outstanding- as are the desserts in their cafe!!

I arrived at the farm very late and the guided tours through the farm were actually not available anymore. Another Problem was my spanish knowledge. But to find here someone who gives me a tour in proper english at that time seemed to be impossible. But they did it anyway and I didn't even have to pay. WOW.... The same... More

Our family, including a 17 and 20 year old, all enjoyed this fascinating tour about the making of manjar (dulce di leche). We had been looking forward to the tasting portion of the tour, but Kareen, our guide, made learning about the farm a delight. This tour is unusual, well organized and entertaining-- a great choice for anyone (with or... More

One of the best places we have visited in Puerto Varas. Authentic dairy farm just 20 minutes away from town. Easily accessible by car or local bus on the road to Ensenada. You must try their milk caramel spread (manjar)...it's simply out of this world! We also got a chance to look in on newborn Jersey calfs while goats and... More
