Must-visit for nature enthusiasts, hikers, and anyone seeking a panoramic view of Santiago’s skyline
Exploring Cerro San Cristóbal in Santiago de Chile was a captivating journey into the city’s natural beauty and panoramic vistas. The hill’s lush greenery and the iconic statue of the Virgin Mary at its peak provided a serene escape from the urban hustle and bustle. Hiking to the summit offered breathtaking views of Santiago and the surrounding Andes Mountains. The funicular ride to the top was a delightful adventure, providing an alternative way to reach the summit. The park’s dedication to preserving its natural beauty and providing recreational spaces was evident throughout. Cerro San Cristóbal is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts, hikers, and anyone seeking a panoramic view of Santiago’s skyline.

A nice uphill walk with great views and lookouts
A nice one hour walk to the top that has great views of the city, including Sky Costaleta. Nice place to eat and get souvenirs. Virgin Mary at the top was a nice thing to see but the views were more of an attraction. The gondola is fairly reasonably priced and you can take it up one way or both ways. A nice thing to do in Santiago!

Great way to spend a morning!
If you come to Santiago and miss this special place, you really have missed it. I suggest taking the funicular up the hill, making your way to the very moving and tasteful Santuario Immaculada Concepcion and attendant chapel, walking to the chair lift and taking it down to the midpoint, then walking to the Jardin Japones (Japanese garden). The garden is small, but pretty and romantic with several good photo spots. You should devote 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 hours to your visit.

    Watch the Sunset!
We took the funicular up here to watch the sunset and then walked down. Walking down in the dark was a little spooky, but it was worth it to have the view of the sunset. INCREDIBLE VIEWS! There were people upstairs selling snacks, hot food, ice cream, drinks, etc.

    Don't miss the gondola ride
Don't miss the gondola ride. It is cheap as dirt to ride, and it will lead right to some spectacular views of this very busy city of over 6 million people. It is fun to ride up, and you can spot your favorite landmarks. The park is quite nice, and contains the biggest statue of the Virgin Mary I have ever seen,

    Inexpensive, excellent views.
Just US$2 to the top or other tickets combining the short 5 minutes ride with the cable car to Cumbre mid station or all the way to Oasis. One way or return. A full day use ticket including the inside of the park for funicular, cable car and scenic bus was only $8. Excellent views.

The Santiago Funicular takes you to Cerro San Cristobal summit with its outstanding views and towering presence of the Virgen de la Inmaculada Concepción statue at the very top. Watch for the steep stairs and the outdoor seating where a papal audience saw and heard Pope John Paul II conduct mass in 1984. The surrounding Parque Metropolitano here is the largest in Santiago with several paths to take you around the hill. On the other side is the teleferico with a 18 min. return journey and 1 stop.

The San Cristobal Hill is located in the heart of Santiago de Chile, and can be accessed by car, on foot or by funicular. To get to the top and see the Virgin from up close. If you want to see a panoramic view of the city, do not make many expectations, since the view is almost null due to the Smog.

Stunning views of the surroundings from San Cristobal hill. The wind at the top of the hill was most welcome, the experience was very pleasant. We walked up and was confused by the map. It’s possible to ride the funicular as well.

Cerro San Cristóbal is probably best known as one of Santiago's biggest tourist attractions, where hordes of Chileans and foreigners are transported up the 300-meter-high mountain - either by cable car or minibus - to get a breathtaking view of the city and take some beautiful photos of the Holy Virgin on top.

Locals go up to light a candle and say a prayer. There is a memorial site and a beautiful, small church on the way. At the top, there's a café with snacks, food, and drinks.

But the mountain is also heavily used by athletes who want to challenge themselves with a relatively short but quite tough uphill hike.

In the morning hours, you'll see lots of hikers, runners, and cyclists fighting their way up the 4.8 km mountain on a nice paved road. There's lots of sweating, panting, and groaning, but the atmosphere is really good - people give each other space and consideration.

The 4.8 km downhill is when the bikes really pick up speed, following a different route to avoid collisions between those going up and those going down.

Hikers and runners will encounter smaller, gravelly, and knobbly paths along the way, where it's possible to take shortcuts up or down the mountain.

One option for the more leisurely inclined is to take the cable car up and hike or run down. What do you feel like?

I went promptly at 10AM on w Wednesday when the ticket office opened. There was no line to buy tickets. As a foreigner I could not get the website to accept any of my credit cards.
