- Paul Sandmann163 contributionsA glimpse into the life of an artistIt’s always a treat visiting the house of a fellow writer: it reflects the poet‘s character, creativity and offers a glimpse into the life of the artist. Pablo Neruda‘s house reminded me a lot of that of Jules Verne - playful - funny at times, when you see how he labeled his salt and pepper shakers. He loved the sea and thus decorated rooms accordingly, like his captain‘s bar. His dining room featured a cabinet Neruda could „disappear“ in, because it had a hidden door at the back through which he could leave his guests for a quick nap. All in all a beautiful place to visit when you’re in Santiago.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 3 January 2024
- QuakesNewYork249 contributionsWorthwhile Visit to a Museum Dedicated to an Important Chilean FigureLovely museum dedicated to Pable Neruda. It tells the story of his background and significance as a poet, diplomat and social conscience well. There are lots of interesting artifacts and personal memorabilia as Pablo and his companion (who the home was bought for) were tireless accumulators of unique items and pieces. Very accessible in the Bellavista area of Santiago and a nice way to spend a couple of hours to absorb some history.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 January 2024
- GrandTourist46838 contributionsWorth ItI wouldn’t consider myself a fan of Pablo Neruda (nor did I know much about him and his life), but I went to this museum anyway… and ended up really enjoying it! I learned about his life and work, and loved the artsy, eclectic house. I highly recommend a visit whether you’re a fan of Neruda or not!Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 13 March 2024
- Melissa B1,268 contributionsVery Tourist FriendlyThis is a cool museum even if you don’t know much about Pablo Neruda. Everyone is given an audio device in a language of their choice and there are clearly labeled spots in the house that go in order of the audio buttons. No photography!Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 April 2024
- Susan B4 contributionsDefinitely worth a visitNeruda’s house is beautiful and really offers insight into the poet. The introductory video and the audio guide were both well done and helpful, and I found the staff to be kind. Highly recommend to anyone who is a Neruda fan or interested in Chilean culture.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 27 April 2024
- Linda H138 contributionsIf I remember, it was an interesting house but there are No Photos to share!!Interesting home/museum which we just happened upon. It's probably not high on the list of must-see places in Santiago, but enjoyable nevertheless. My only grumble is that photos are not permitted. Why not? It's how we all remember our travels. We were there a month ago and I have already forgotten much of what was in the home/museum.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 May 2024

Museum provides audio guide which is pretty decent and provides a lot of information and is well paced. Touring the house/museum took us 30mins and is a nice way to spend some time. House is in shape of a boat and makes for a fun visit.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 June 2024

This was going to be one of the highlights of our trip to Santiago. We got to the reception and after a brief conversation with her, my wife asked the woman behind the till what there was to see in the museum. She suddenly turned nasty, saying she doesn’t speak English and rudely continued to repeat herself even though she had been speaking in English when we first entered the reception. We had no option but to leave.
For Neruda who goes beyond boundaries, nations I found this approach appalling and insult to his memory.

Seemed expensive to me for what the tour offered. Not sure why no photos were allowed in the house, except to encourage people to buy overpriced gift shop items. The house is interesting but small. The audio tour was informative.

Visiting La Chascona is an experience you have to live if or if once in your life. It’s a magical place full of life, it’s intigrant and exciting, it makes you feel like Pablo Neruda’s best friend, as if you’ve both known each other all your life, it makes you enter the privacy of your home and things but without feeling like a single visitor. As it is built it completely reflects Pablo Neruda and his artistic mind. The objects he possesses reflect the artist’s funny personality, as well as his loves and passions, which is demonstrated through objects such as the oregano flask, photos, paintings, to the doors and inclination of the rooms.
With my group we arrive around noon, the tour is not with Guide, it is with Audio Guide, which is very easy to use. The audio guide explained everything very well. We were about 45 minutes late. At the end we entered the store which has a great variety of objects, and the one that like the house was incredibly clean.
I totally recommend going as it is to be in a paradise, once you enter you no longer want to leave.

We arrived around 13:00 and before arriving at the house in case you could see signs that indicate that the house is nearby. The entrance is very nice, has a water mirror and the name of the house, when you enter you pass an audio guide that explains the life of Neruda and the why of some objects of the house. Along the way you can see Neruda’s personal items and objects that show his particular tastes as are the bow figureheads found in the bookstore. The souvenir shop is on the side of the entrance and is also very nice and has several souvenirs that you can take with you such as notebooks, books and even fees.
I recommend the experience because if the house is beautiful and contains very interesting things something that will certainly catch the attention of a true lover of Neruda and at the same time make him connect with his poems.

This house museum is really cool, full of style and history. It is very worth the visit. The only bad thing is that you can't take photos inside. But otherwise it was great, and there is an audio guide in Portuguese. However, it is not an accessible place, if you are with someone who has any difficulties. Quite narrow stairs.

We left the National Zoo and went to see Pablo Neruda's house - La Chascona! I found the organization incredible, as soon as we arrive they give us the device like a radio and, at each point we enter the house, we listen to the explanations (there is audio in Portuguese), which makes the experience even better! The house is beautiful and huge, all interconnected), it is well worth the visit!

Boa viagem!
