Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Of all the markets in this area of Santiago this was our favorite by far.....Laid back atmosphere, very straightforward. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, sundries and a bit of merchandise downstairs and an AMAZING array of food stalls packed with locals of all walks upstairs. It can seem overwhelming but the food was very good, home made and super affordable. We at Cafeteria Melantojo where we had basically three courses plus a choice of fresh squeezed juice for the equivalent of about $9 USD. First was a thin chicken consommé type soup, the server will ask you which vegetables you want but this is really your chance to build a salad or just have some sliced cucmbers or shredded cabbage or carrots. All fresh, clean and tasty. The salsa type condiments on the table are also VERY good and spicy. A fair amount of the produce downstairs is for canning or pickling, so be sure to ask. For instance the small yellow papayas are NOT sweet and all the cherries were pie cherries. Still a super fun afternoon in the market and an excellent, funky latin-reggae band playing.

So much fresh fruit and fresh nuts. Aisles and aisles of fruit and vegetables and beans. Good thing this market is just right across the bridge from the Mercado Central (fish) Market, because we were looking for fresh fruit! We bought and sampled a lot. Many of the isles are so colorful with all the different kinds of fruits and vegetables. Great photo ops. Keep in mind, the area is common for pickpockets, so keep your money and other belongings tight in hand and don't flash big bills. Highly Recommended.

Great place to eat! Come here for a variety of selection of food. There are many restaurants that are worth a try. Also a nice place to buy local fruits and vegetables.

We visited here first by accident looking for the Mercado Central and it is actually much nicer. The locals are shopping here. Lots of lovely fruit and vegetables. Go here and avoid the other market. This is over the river.

We had a great experience here, we are all morning walking nearby and found this little but well equipped market 2 blocks down La Vega Central. We were mesmerized by the smell of the food there. It's a mixed place between food, goods, veggies, groceries and restaurants. We tried Chilean food in one of the many restaurants and it definitely was a great experience, really delicious!

A total must in Santiago de Chile, plenty of local and international food in the local food market. Tirso de Molina offers an amazing gastronomic experience if you dare to visit. Not the nicest or trendiest place... but definitely worth while a visit. I tried a Thai food place named Luck Thai and was a wonderful surprise.

Not nearly as popular as the Mercado Central, but definitely more authentic. The second floor is all food stalls packed with locals. The first floor is produce/food stands.

I had my first bowl of Cazuela here and immediately fell in love. I would definitely recommended it for a cheap and authentic (and most importantly delicious) lunch.

Smaller market located near Vega market. We had a ton of fun checking it out. There are lots of produce stalls and other food stalls downstairs. Upstairs has a bunch of hole-in-the-wall restaurants. We ate at the Mexican place and it was delicious. Would definitely recommend going to the market and eating at the Mexican place

Interesting Central Market in Santiago, Chile! A friend took us here when hosting us in Santiago, Chile on a trip in 2009.

The market is very nice and has some decent food and that wonderful vibrant atmosphere you get in Latin markets. It just does not live up to some of the more lively markets in Mexico though.
