Tourist shops

Typical tourist trap of stalls with "authentic" souvenirs. Found it not worth while visiting, found much better markets in other Chilean cities.

We had lunch here. I would not recommend it to anyone, even when the food is cheap. But the place is so dirty and basic, and the area around it has foul smells and you can be victim of pickpockets and muggers. It's sad that this part of the town is so rundown and not looked after. It's a better... More

Nothing too impressive here, and that was the general impression I got from Valpo (minus the views). Glad we popped along, but was happier above the city of over in nearby towns.

Among the masses of tourists and stray dogs this group of 5-10 shops sell similar goods at a surprisingly wide range of prices. I saw one item, a whisky shot glass, vary by 100% (range CHP 1.300 to 2.600). I suggest you hunt here for what you want, work out the price, and then buy cheaper from one of the... More

Stop in and take a quick picture. If a tour boat is almost completely full, consider taking a boat tour. Otherwise, you will be standing around for a long time staring at an empty boat. As for the shops, not much to offer.

We thought if we R in Valparaiso well the seafood should be fresh and cheap. On the contrary it was extremely expensive for what they are serving and even worse if you realize that you are not in a five star restaurant I think for the same money we should go to a five star restaurant I don't recommend it

Went during the new year holiday. Paid 25 dollars for a not so good food in a dirty ambient. Many people asking for money while you eat. Do not recommend.

My girlfriend and I came to this part of town to see the the fish market, which was closed when we arrived (mid-afternoon). Although there was a policeman in the plaza, we were definitely being observed by sketchy-looking people. As another reviewer wrote, the smell was pretty horrible and the neighborhood seemed to get worse by the block. After we... More

If you dont feel confortable with bad smells and everything in your life needs to be organized and tidy this is not the place for you to go. But if you dont care about that and you like to see how real people live in a city like Valparaiso you have to go there. To smell the fishy air, the... More

I went with my fiance looking after a different place for our lunch. Looking perhaps for some culture and certainly some fine seafood. Luckily we were looking for lunch and not dinner as the place is located in one of the most dangerous part of the town. We asked the hotel staff about the place and they advised us not... More
