Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This former palace is now a museum with several awesome collections of fine arts. Certainly worth visiting.

Truth is that I’m not a painting specialist, so I will not speak about the paintings that there are in the museum.
The reason of my visit it’s the building itself.
Don’t miss it if you visit the city.
It’s located on the hill with perfect view, just next to the cable car station.
Entrance fee for foreigners is 4000 pesos that’s mean apprx. 8 USD

Lovely building in great setting with nice views. Small but interesting collection of paintings, with some good scenes of old Valparaiso with some local painters.

This was our first visit to the museum, located on the Cerro Alegre’s Paseo Yugoslavo. It can be reached by the El Peral funicular and is housed in a beautiful Art Nouveau(ish) mansion and its adjacent guesthouse. The buildings themselves are worth a visit, but my wife and I were especially surprised by the beauty of many of the paintings. We knew that the collection had some examples by well-known painters (for Chileans), such as the magnificent Thomas Somerscales, Juan Francisco González and Alfredo Helsby, but also paintings by some we did not know, such as the Spanish painter Eugenio Hermoso. Of course, you will not find paintings by Old Masters, but some truly beautiful paintings set in a lovely museum.
I was unaware that the entrance fees differed depending on whether you are Chilean or not, and think that should stop, but even so the entrance fee for foreign visitors is only USD $6, including an audio guide, which is quite reasonable.

We enjoyed our visit to this old mansion containing a relatively small, but well-chosen collection. It's mainly late 19th century European and Chilean paintings,

The Palacio Baburuzzi is worth the climb up Cerro Alegre (since the Ascensor El Peral (1902) is not working!) Cerro Alegre is the most picturesque neighborhood in Valapariso and the museum is just as worthy of the visit.
This museum is also known as the Museo de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Museum). The collection is limited, but there are a few very good Chilean Originals that should not be missed. Apparently it was going through renovations for a long time, but now it is just beautiful.

If you like art nouveau and art deco, this is the place to go to. This Pallazio is beautifully restored and it is inside and outside very interesting (the wood panneling, the iron lamps, the very modern period bathroom etc). It consists of two house which only shows on the inside. One house is more dark than the other. It is interesting to see the difference and image how the people used to live here.
We came especially for the house itself, but the art collection was also interesting enough and nicely displayed.
The visit will take about on hour and it is an hour well spend. It is quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the crowd.

My favorite museum in the area, the building itself is beautiful and the art is fascinating. Good for a one hour tour, then have a coffee and pastry in their coffee shop.

A “palatial” house that was too much for the children of the owner to maintain so they gave the house along with all the artwork inside to the people of Valparaiso

While an art museum, with some quality works, for the most part, exhibition rooms still reflect a lifestyle of years gone, when this was a rich dudes home from early-mid 20th century. Well worth visiting as great architecture.
