The interior of this church was so ornate. There were so many statues and frescoes, etc to gaze at. The whole interior was breathtaking yet very peaceful.

We visited the San Francisco church while in the Old Town area of Quito and were very pleased with the experience. There were many amazing details through the entire church that showed off the amazing craftsmanship of the church. The entire thing was very beautiful and free of charge to enter. I would recommend this stop to any travelers in... More

Beautiful, lively, and welcoming 16th-century church. No fee to enter. To me it is just as beautiful and more authentic than the rich and heavily restored Iglesia de la Compania. Baroque and Mudejar elements bathe the nave, chapels and altar in golden splendor (but will need to be restored some day). We were there before Christmas and watched the beautiful... More

If you have time to see only once church in Quito, this would be it. This beautiful church is decorated with awe-inspiring artwork. Upper floor balcony allows you to soak in a masterpiece of the Quito School, blending Spanish baroque style with Moorish and Inca influences. Stepping into this church makes you feel like walking into a beautiful birthday cake!... More

I visited most of the beautiful churches in Quito and this church was my favorite. As it was Xmas during December, there were decorations which gave another dimension to the peaceful atmosphere. I managed to stay during a Mass and was pleasantly surprised. It was very calm and done in such a way that touched my heart although I am... More

There is no end to beautiful old churches in Ecuador, and especially in Quito. Located in Plaza Grande, it is a nice place to stop and watch the locals. During festivals and holidays the entire square fills with people. It is an imposing building that used to be the convent as well. Worth the visit while touring Old Quito. Get... More

I'm not much of a church goer, but I can never resist visiting one of Quito's many beautiful architechural masterpieces. San Francisco church certainly gives one a vision of tghe glory of heaven. The museum is also packed with treasures and often has special exhibits, like the one I saw for Christmas 2016.

We didn't go into the church, but in front of it the square had dancers that were very entertaining to watch. Oh, I did duck into the Church's gift shop and picked up a little coin purse a souvenir from Quito. A fellow traveler bought some hot chocolate nearby and said it was the best she ever had.

I believe the tickets were $2 and you don't really need a guide just ask for the Cantuña reference at the lady in the front! Beautiful church and museum a must!
