Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Other than visiting the church, there is no reason to come to this plaza. The five or six times during my stay in Quito that I came by this plaza it was deserted but for some dodgy folks near the bus stand whom I avoided. The plaza alone should not be considered a tourist destination.

Huge square dominated by the Dominican complex and a statue of Marshal Sucre in the middle. An ensemble of white modern sculptures has been added near the convent with museum. On the main Guyaquil road there are some low budget restaurants. Near the church are vendors and quite a few people begging. Overall a pleasant square though I missed a place with shade.

For a variety of reasons - we found ourselves hanging out on the plaza for nearly a couple of hours. Certainly not worthy as a destination all by itself.

Our hotel (Casa Alquimia) is on one corner of the plaza - and we had two nights right there. The character of the plaza changes from commuter transport hub during AM & PM rush hours to a sketchy scene at night / early mornings.

However, the Museo de Fray Pedro Bedon (which faces the plaza) is DEFINITELY EXCELLENT and should not be missed.

Also La Ronda is one block over - and has excellent restaurants.

Average plaza. Not a whole lot going on here. Not many tourists, which means no vendors, which means, nothing really going on. Pretty dead when I came through here, the other surrounding plazas all seemed to be much more "happening." Still, a nice area, if near-by, you could walk through it real quick.

Our hotel was in the plaza, but honestly, besides being a hub for several bus lines, I felt as though it could have been so much more. with flower beds, vendors, etc. Save your time for other plazas.

Wish I had been here when it was filled with vendors but enjoyed staying on the plaza with the church lit so beautifully at night.

For some reason this plaza is often missed by tourists and when we were there it appeared this continued. While we appreciated the reduced crowds, I am amazed that not more people venture to the plaza.

This is not a conventional plaza for tourists. It is a transportation plaza where three bus loops intersect. They are glassed-in stops that seem to run pretty much continuously. In the plaza itself are three large tents for the craft sellers and one large music tent with the biggest speakers money can buy. The church is there too but it is now overshadowed by all the outside activity. There is also many solid restaurants in the immediate vicinity and an ATM on the corner.

The plaza is nice enough with the large church as a backdrop but there isn't much to do in or around the plaza. Worth a quick look since it's near Sam Francisco.

My spouse and I visited this wide open plaza on a Saturday morning while on a tour of Ecuador. Because it is located south of Centro Historico, and slightly out of the way of the main attractions in this neighborhood, it is easily missed my most tourists.. Unfortunately it rained the day we were there, so we did not stroll about as we would have wished.

Dominating the plaza is Iglesia de Santo Domingo, which features a stunning wooden Mudejar coffered ceiling. While others in our group shopped the many vendors that had gathered beneath their tents, the two of us ducked inside the church, and were very thankful that we did since it became one of our favorite buildings in Quito.
