Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Last night we saw the Bogota Symphony Orchestra perform Mahler's 5th, and the show was fantastic. The orchestra was amazing, the director funny and interesting, and they generally put on a good show. The acoustics in the theater are good.

The theater experience itself, however, was less than stellar. The lady in the ticket counter was unhelpful. When we arrived at our seats (luneta izquierda, row C--the highest row in the place), we were disappointed to find the seats uncomfortable (no cushions), cramped, and noisy. We returned to the ticket counter to speak to the salesperson about upgrading our tickets to box seats, but she refused to let us exchange our tickets. The theater has a no-refund policy, but seriously? We were trying to pay more money for better seats, which were not even half full. This was disappointing.

I'm not a culture snob by any stretch, but I do expect the theater to be one place where guests are on their best behavior. In true Ecuadorian fashion, people left their phones on during the performance, even after 2 reminders over the loudspeaker to shut off electronics. So between the ringing/alarming phones, the crinkling of bags and candy wrappers (I mean, do you really need that candy bar during a 1.5-hour performance?), squeaky chairs, and people getting up and walking around during the middle of each piece, it was a bit difficult to concentrate on this really fantastic orchestra.

The theater is beautiful but small. It was remodeled in 2003 and looks fine. The stage itself is crowded--maybe it just seemed that way with approx 80 musicians on it--and unremarkable. We spent 20 minutes in the theater's wine bar before the show (there is a formal restaurant too), and it was fine, nothing to write home about. About $10 for a glass of wine.

Seats: the box seats are definitely the best, but make sure to request one with a full view. The floor seats looked ok, but I'm not sure how the view is down there. Our seats seem to have been the worst. We were in C1 and C2 of the luneta izquierda, and although we were all the way in the middle of the row, the view was not good. It was hard to see over the two rows in front of us. As I mentioned, the rows were cramped, and we had to step over about 25 people to exit the row. All in all, a good experience, and we will go back if there is a show worth seeing...but will be careful pickier about our seats.

We went to see several performances including 2 of the Quito jazz festival. Each time we got an advanced ticket, we were issued a provional ticket. This means you have to back and get a "real" ticket which can be done about 24 hours ahead of time. It wasn't until our third performance we realized you do it just before the performance. If you get a top balcony seat you cannot get into the front doors of the theatre. The guy in the top hat just kept pointing. It was super frustrating as we kept running to side doors where we were told to go back to where we started. Finally someone took us and others like us to a separate line to the left of the main entrance but still on the plaza. We sat in the orchestra, the top balcony, and box seats. All had great views. The top seats had no cushioning, so .... Stage lighting was hardest on us in orchestra seats as it often glared directly into our eyes. This even happened a few times in the box seats. There was no option for drinks or snacks, and we saw lots of folks with bottles of water. Acoustics seemed good. Very affordable, ranging from free, but you have to get a ticket from the "office" to $20 for box seats. Seemed like a lot of last minute buying at allperformances. I was a little worried about getting a cab late at night, but all three times it wasn't that hard. There is a lot of police presence.

For the first time I had the opportunity to attend to a Jazz concert at Teatro Sucre, Quito.
First of all the stage was not properly set for the concert, e.g. it was an outstanding performer from Korea, the stage should have been appropiate for the nationality of the artist and it was not. They should let people travel in their imagination to the vocalist's place of origin.
Secondly, there is not parking available for the guests. Otherwise the teatre is confortable, very nice interiors not deluxe, the acustics were excellent.
Hopfully, something could be corrected because my husband and I are planning to attend further events. Its wonderful to see that Ecuador has also people loving culture and music.

Simply a nice, colonial styled theater. I did not find anything mind blowing here, however, I did find the architecture to be of interest and very beautiful. The plaza it sits in is also a good area to walk around in, so you will see this place at one point or another.

I was walking past the theatre one afternoon and saw Mozarts Zauberflote being advertised on the posters. Since the play was starting in one hour there were only the expensive tickets left. Wonderful play and great costumes, it was so worth the $50.

The service and food were excellent. We had every fish on the menu: the plates were beautiful and the food delicious. The room is lovely in that conservative, long draperies, velvet sort of way. My personal taste would be a bit lighter and more modern, though I cannot fault any of the things that really matter. The music, however, needs an update. Pan flute playing American show tunes just becomes irritating after the first 3 minutes.

We had lunch here during a tour of the area. Lunch was excellent. During our lunch there was a protest outside in the plaza. Many street merchants if you are interested in souvenir.
