Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This small triangular shaped park is located between the old and the new city. It is the oldest Quito park (from 1596). Leaving the old town the first monument that catches attention at the southwest tip of the park is a man on a horse. It is Simon Bolivar on a stallion leading the masses depicted in social realist style, almost like in the former Soviet Union.
The astronomical observatory is in the center of the park. Its tower is the best place to get an overview of La Alameda. Hence there is an artificial lagoon and El Churo, a remnant of colonial times. The structure has the form of a snail.

There was a lot of construction going along one side of the park. Seemed overall just average. Nice for a little walk, but our hotel staff warned us not to go after dark.

nice to hang around, but the observatory seemed completely abandoned, and it is kind of dangerous if you walk by there at night

This small park on the edge of Centro Historico contains A statue of Simon Bolivar, the Observatory and a small lake where you rent a boat. Nothing really special about it to make you want to is it it. It is not in the best of shape and looks a bit worn and tattered. BTW — I only saw two or three benches where you can sit down and enjoy the trees and shade. There is simply nowhere to sit and rest other than the ground. Pass it by.....

This park is the heart of the Alameda neighborhood in Quito, many people are there everyday, the street food is good and you find the observatory and boats. It is not a wonder of the city but it has significance for the people of the place.

I enjoy plopping down in the grass in the middle of day tours, and this park was a breath a fresh air when we came upon it. It's very clean, and safe during the day. There were kids in the paddle boats in the ponds, and a couple of cute puppies in the grass. There are vendors and tiendas around, so grab a snack and enjoy. The trees are beautiful as well. It's a good stop if you are walking between metro lines!

Very busy around lunch time. Great little food stands with delicious selections (I chose hot food that I got in a disposable bowl with a plastic spoon - sorry) and I did not get sick: BBQ pork, corn with a delicious marinated tomatoe and onion sauce, potato and fried banana for $2. Very friendly people. One of them told me a little about the history of the park. People watching was great. Snake and other reptile vendors (dead animals - they will cure all your ills), ice and ice cream vendors, sweets of all kinds, nice landscaping, people sitting out in the sun, offers from fortune tellers and more.

You can rent boats here, sit by the fountains, view the stars when the night sky is clear, and just hang out and chill near downtown area. Definitely a nice place to take a break from the traffic and city.

This dirty and run-down park does not offer much to the visitor. There might be some good photography opportunities for all the local action but other than that, not really worth making a special trip.

I was staying in the new city (or Gringo Land as some call it) and decided to walk the 40 minutes to the old city. On my way I passed through this park. It's small, but has a unique history which you should take the time to read. Great place for families and couples to rent a row boat or paddle boat.
