I just finished studying Spanish at Cristobal Colon Spanish School for 2 weeks and it was outstanding. I had already studied some Spanish at different “highly regarded” schools in Europe but Cristobal Colon is by far the best school I’ve attended so far. All classes are one-on-one which accelerates the learning process a lot. The teachers are very professional, patient and constantly adapting to what you need as a student. Every morning I was surprised how they came to class so well prepared, coming up with different innovative and fun exercises again and again - always very thoughtful and personalised to my interests and needs. They did their homework a lot better than me ;) There is structure but a lot of flexibility too and they’re always willing to listen to suggestions and ideas for the class. This keeps it interesting. I went out into the neighbourhood with my teacher a couple of times and we did some cooking with the other students and teachers together as well. Lots of fun and learning. It’s one of those places where they don’t make you feel like they only “act” friendly just because they want your money (which I sadly felt in many places in Quito - but it’s understandable and you get used to this as a western traveler..) But here they’re sincere and see you as a person, not cash machine. The director José is really friendly as well and always there to answer your questions and gives lots of tips to do. I stayed with a host family arranged through the school and they were so warm and caring. They came to pick me up from the airport and immediately made me feel like I was their own daughter. Very clean and tidy apartment, lots of Spanish practice, excellent food and less than a 5 minute walk from the school. I think they offer the best prices for Spanish classes in all of Ecuador as well. I can only highly recommend... will definitely come back for more classes!…

They have a lot of teachers and the lessons are one teacher per student, a great way to learn and tailor the program to your needs. I was in Quito for 4 weeks and 3 of those weeks I attended school,.The rest of the time I travelled the country.=. I rented an AirBnb and what I would do differently next time is to seek a host person"s with room and board. Heard lot of good things about host families or individuals.. Ecuador is a beautiful country, the people I met were all super helpful and kind. Recommend highly…

My wife and I both studied for 5 days in Quito, some years back and found the one on one classes to be very excellent. I have Skyped one hour a week for a class for several years now and recommend it as a great way to learn the language.

It is a great school that employs a number of different teachers. Close to public transportation, but have to park a block or two away. Best prices I’ve found as well.

I was in Quito for two weeks and did two weeks of Spanish with the amazing Mayra. I did a ‘cultural experience’ for a week and a week of normal classes. The cultural experience is worth it if you are not in Quito very long and you want to cover everything. The school is far more cost effective than the others (I think you pay a premium to be in the old town) and with one-on-one teaching your Spanish skyrockets. The school owner Jose is also great at answering all your questions. I would recommend it in a heart beat…
