This is a nice clean spa, but it is small. The day we visited there were maybe 20 people using the facility. Evidently, there are parts of the property closed for renovation, so we got a rate of 2 for $35. What we received for that is access to the two mud pools, the volcano caves (one hot and cold pool), the box steam, and the three outdoor pools. If there are more than 20 people, the place would be crowded. Also, smearing the mud all over your bodies means you have to wash it off - which is difficult. What ends up happening is that the soaking pools get polluted by the red clay. It just felt dirty. Still, a nice day spent here for a bargain price. I’ve seen better.

Signs all over spa areas say silence please, but there was a constant grinding, pounding hammers and drilling filled the air everywhere. CONSTRUCTION IN PROCESS! Water in special cave pool over 110 degrees or hotter. My spa at home is 105 degrees constantly. I could not put my foot in the water. Massage was over powered by boom box editing outside construction noise. Food was good. Worst spa I've ever been to on six continents. Here is the funniest and sick hook to get customers, (Supposedly some flousy organization) gave this spa a trophy for the best spa in North and South America, and it is displayed on the check-in counter. BEWARE!!!!!!

So just got back from the spa and sat down to write this review. The staff are muy bien and it is a nice place and appealing to the eye. However if you go you need flip flops or some kind of foot protection. The paving is uncomfortable, there are triping hazzards all over the place, and it is slipery in a lot of spots. It is a health and safety nightmare in regards to lack of hand rails. I personally wasn't comfortable with the "circuit". Too many people in close contact for my liking, that is for me personally my wife was fine and loved every minute. Again the staff were great and went out of there way to help. The place is beautiful with the rock design too, though getting a little tired in some places. So it is nice-ish in many ways but it is not peaceful with the amount of people. This is my view.

My husband and I visited the Spa on 1/15/20. The entire experience was amazing. We had a guide takes us around from point to point and explain the processes and their benefits. After you make the "circuit" you can spend as much time as you wish. Total we spent three hours and even got a milk shake delivered to us in the Japanese Pool. I would highly recommend the Spa and may even go back again. How can you beat $.15.00 a piece?

This hotel is set in a gorgeous old building right in the center of town - close to many of the attractions. The doors to the bedrooms are ceiling to floor and elaborately decorated which is pretty cool. As is the glamorous marble staircase. The staff are very pleasant and helpful.
Unless you get one of the “presidential suites” all other rooms are teeny tiny and have no windows (the pictures on the website are very well taken with a fish eye lens making everything look bigger). It’s hard to fit two people’s luggage in the room and you have to side step each other to get to the bathroom. It’s also pitch black unless you turn on the lights.
Windows could be retrofitted by the hotel into the double wooden shutters to modernize these rooms or the walls knocked down between the tiny rooms to make one luxurious room with a nice big bathroom and living area - more fitting with 21st century clientele.
The wooden shutters also means you hear ALL the street noise and hustling and night performances. It is very loud.
The bathrooms have recently been renovated compared to older photos in reviews which is great, however now there is no lip on the shower floor so water spills out of the shower into the rest of the small bathroom and soaks everything.
Breakfast is not really continental breakfast but just two tablespoons of yoghurt, 9 small slices of fruit with a tablespoon of granola. 2 small chunks of bread with jam also accompanied this but it is designed to get you to order more which we refused to do and went down the road and bought a croissant elsewhere.
Overall, good location in a historic building but would not recommend this unless you have money to spend on the presidential rooms.

Thank you for your comment, however it seems that you are confusing us with another establishment.
We are a Hot Springs Spa, we are not a hotel and we do not provide accommodation.

Super recommended! The personal is really nice and attentive. They don't hurry you to go through the spa circuit, they let you take your time. In the end we got a tea while waiting on our cab and an employee guided us to the cab with an umbrella because it was raining.

We took the subterranean spa tour which was fantastic, having visited the spa previously to do the regular tour I can say that both options are fantastic but the subterranean provides more privacy. I always enjoy visits to Piedra del Agua and recommend it to everyone I know that visits Cuenca! Mateo our guide was fantastic and really went out of his way to bring us a fantastic service. 100% recommended!!

10/10 experience. The subterráneo tour was really special—every treatment area offered something different and rejuvenating, it was all very private, and the guides were excellent. Their attentiveness and good energy made the experience. I booked via WhatsApp and they were very responsive and accommodating even though it was a busy holiday weekend. Despite the crowds the staff was attentive and wonderful and the experience was very well organized. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to unwind in a very special place.

What an Awesome surprise! Visiting from Florida, USA & São Paulo, Brazil. This spa was recommended to us by American expats and locals. Very well organized, very clean at a great price. The food is delicious (get the Seafood Volcano & Parmesan Fries). Also good drinks (our Pisco Sour was the Real Thing). But the very best was the massage therapists! We travel all over the world and can attest that Yusmari and Nayely are some of the very best. We are coming back tomorrow.

Espectacular 👌
Carlos and Patricia were absolutely wonderful to us. The entire place and experience of “Piedra de agua” is not the only great thing, is also the great staff that work very hard to help and be attentive to visitors. Every detail, every moment, everything well thought to have an enjoyable and unforgettable experience. Kudos. I recommend everyone to take the spa route. Fabulous product to enjoy!👌

Two questions, please.
1.- Is there a REGULAR SWIMMING Pool? Is is outdoor? Is it HEATED?
2.- I can gather from what is written that Agua de Piedra is NOT a Hotel, Motel, nor a Hostel. Are there any rooms where guests can change. shower, relax INDOORS and keep their belongings secure and safe?
Written 28 March 2018
The pool IS heated. I think the other reviewers pretty much addressed your questions. There is also another hot spring spa near by. I do not recall the name.

is it true that the red mud stains your swim suit permanently?
Written 28 September 2017
Not been our experience, no. The red mud washed away. But perhaps if you have some special fabric it would not.

Do you need a swimsuit or would athletic shorts and a sports bra be acceptable?
Written 13 May 2017
Yes, a swimsuit is better, and I think they actually require a swimsuit. Sorry for the delay in responding, enjoy

What is the price for a massage? Do I have to make a reservation for the massage ahead of time or when I get there?
Written 27 January 2017
I think the price was around $60.00 US Dlls. for 50 min. When I went, everybody at the reception area had a reservation except me, try to be on the safe side. It is a lovey experience.
Written 14 May 2017
shorts seems to be acceptable. Have fun.
