Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice museum ( dont go if You are not able to translate with your phone or don t know any Spanish). Check out the numismatic submuseum downstairs. Backpacks to be handes in at the entrance. Like all museums in Cuenca they ask Some questions for visitors statistics.

The museum is free. I liked that we can learn about the history of Cuenca and the ethnic groups in Ecuador. Do have Google translate on your phone (non-Spanish speakers) because there isn't signs in English. The ruins are interesting to visit and the park is really beautiful. You can spend between 1.5-2 hours here if you go through everything.

The display was really lovely and I had the feeling that one day wouldn't be enough to see everything you wanted to see! It was divided in sections and had a special exhibition on Indian culture, but that didn't interfere with the usual show of Ecuadorian history. All in all it was very well made and the paths easy to follow. The outdoor area is also great for relaxing and enjoying the view on Cuenca. Definitely recommend to visit!

Outside gardens and archeological sites are open and beautiful. Pottery exhibit indoors impressive although lacking in English explanations. Shrunken head exhibit in English. Free museum. The day we went there was an excellent dance/music performance in lobby.

The actual museum was closed due to Covid when I was there. However, the ruins were interesting and there were stairs leading down to a garden area with an aviary and llamas grazing on the hillside. I really enjoyed the time I spent here.

Excellent museum, located near the river. Gives a great overview of Ecuador’s history, the culture, beautiful displays of indigenous clothing, replicas of small dwelling houses and a good ecological exhibit with explanations in English, just slide the panels, English on one side, Spanish on the other. Outside there are Inca ruins. Make sure you walk to the edge of these and you will find lovely sunken gardens below with a variety of flowering trees and shrubs and a medicinal garden. There is also a small aviary. Admission is free and well worth a visit. The museum also has a good gift shop with high quality craft items.

These ruins are as good as Ingripirca and the museum is very good at showing the cultural new and old of Ecuador (both are free!)

A rich and wonderful museum! Representative of the many cultures and customs of Ecuador. Life SIZE displays to Shrunken Heads with the story of the ritual.
Behind the museum is the ruins with the tightly fit stones, how did they do that, with the tools shown in the museum???
Further below, a large bird aviary , Indigenous gardens llamas grazing along the trails below the ruins. Lol
Lots of time can go by here depending on your interest. I believe that there is something for everyone. Give it 2-3 hours. 5 🌟

Free museum in Cuenca with cool ruins and a nice park out back with views of the city. Nothing special but a nice visit if you're looking for something to do.

It's a very intertaining museum, my family told me that it was " the most important museum in Cuenca". What struck me the previous exhibition that drove me crazy because you never know when the illustrations would conclude. I found ancient vessels made by Ecuadorean hands that totally exalted me for the years of their useful like as well as sculptures of the ancient communities that inhabited in Ecuador their activities, culture, gastronomy, fishing, etc.
The place is clean, quiet and with a welcoming indigenous music which sometimes makes you transporting to the old times. A place where you have to go. Good luck!
