The canyon is spectacular and hiking it in three days was relaxing, especially day 2 when we had a hostel with a pool. Have a fresh Tshirt ready for the climb up on the last day. Warning. Our guide Vladimir was awful. if you get him try to change. He slept on the bus rather than telling us about vicuñas... More

Colca Canyon is a must-see for anyone visiting the Arequipa, Peru area. Awesome vistas greet you around every turn. To get the best travel experience, go with a tour. The guides are invaluable to opening your eyes to sights - and history/culture - you may otherwise miss. Plan on at least a full day and don't miss the Cross of... More

I suffer terribly from altitude sickness and struggled the whole time I was in Peru. However, I got my act together and pulled through on this. Staying at the bottom of the canyon was lovely and peaceful and I'd recommend trying to stay more than one night as I felt we didn't really get time to appreciate the serenity or... More

We just finishied the three days/ two nights Colca canyon trek with Johselm Canto and Yiovanni. Johselm and his team take care of a lot of different things. We we're picked up at the bus station of Arequipa and had a City tour the next day. The actual trek started in the night and we went to Cabanaconde at the... More

We were really contemplating whether to do the Colca Canyon through an organized tour or on our own - and eventually decided to just do it ourselves and worth every single step. You can either take a bus to Cabanaconde or rent a car (which is what we did). The drive there and back was just absolutely breathtaking!!! We couldn't... More

Long bus trip from Arequipa starting at 3 am, with a tour guide, slept til breakfast. High altitude ( about 10000 feet, I think,) so have the coca tea for breakfast It helps with altitude sickness. . Beautiful views of the "Grand Canyon of South America" Its very different from US Grand Canyon- much deeper, but narrower. Great view of... More

We did a two-day tour, staying overnight in Chivay. I think it would have been too long a day to do it in one day and we would have been too tired to enjoy it properly after getting up hours before dawn and returning in the evening. That said, the minibus ride was great, with stops to look at the... More

We were very lucky as the weather was forecast for rain; it did not. We had fabulous weather and could really appreciate this remarkable place. We went as far as thee Colca Cross area and saw two condors. Magnificent sight. The canyon at this point is very deep; thousands of feet. Further toward the Pacific, it reaches a depth reported... I had no experience, and it was a tough walk, but I throughly enjoyed it. The views are wonderful and it is a truly unique experience. Went for 3 days and 2 nights, with a stay with a local family and in the oasis. Really rustic, though. No electricity for the most part and you need to take your own... More
