Museo Santuarios Andinos is home to the Ice Maiden Juanita, a young Inca girl that was sacrificed to the Inca gods at the top of Mt. Ampato in the late 1400s. She was discovered, almost perfectly preserved in ice in 1995, and now makes her...More

We paid 20 soles each to visit this museum after reading about it in a guide book. The place was tiny, incredibly overpriced, and completely worth skipping. We were forced to hand over our belongings. Sigh. When they saw I hadn't checked in my camera...More

This was a really good museum portrayal of an intriguing story. It was 'brought to life' by the initial film show and then the tour takes you through the details of what is a legendary tale about one sacrificial victim. The guide was excellent and...More

We visited here mainly to view the Juanita Mummy, the well preserved frozen body of a young Incan sacrifice victim. I, personally, found the experience a little disturbing. The museum also houses a number of artifacts found during the expedition that discovered Juanita.

The visit starts with a 20 minute video explaining the culture behind the sacrifices. After this you are taken around the museum to be shown and explained each exhibit. The tour guides are not paid so you need to tip the guide at the end...More

Very special and intriguing little museum. The Juanita mummy itself is kind of creepy. Don’t forget to tip the guide. They speak English well.

We took advantage of a personal guide. Started out with a 20 minute National Geographic movie exposing the discovery of human sacrifices 500 years old. Those murdered to appease the Gods to prevent volcanic activity were ages 8 through 14. Whilst I had heard of...More

Informative and different from most museums. Guides were very knowledgeable. Be prepared, it’s quite dark inside.

From what i can see in Google, the hours are 9am to 6pm. With Juanita, I would check first as they do remove her for a few months of the year and replace her with one of the other Ice Mummies. Hope this helps

When you are in Arequipa, stop by and confirm if Juanita is there before you buy your tickets. They might have other mummys or attractions in May. The museum is in downtown Arequipa, so do this as you are walking through... More
