We just happened to be walking past this church so it was a spontaneous decision to enter. The entrance fee was quite nominal and we were told to join a small group at the front of the church for a tour. The church itself is quite small and you would probably not appreciate the history without the guide. In addition... More

Plaza and church are beautiful. One feels as if you step into the past. Not to be missed. We had seen mass there on Sunday evening. It also has a museum which we did not enter.

I was happily able to visit the Plaza and Church, but the Monastery is closed on Sundays. The plaza is cute and appears to be popular either the locals vas Mass was going on, I was only able to pop into the church for a couple of minutes to take a couple photos and to glance around.

Very old building, full of character and shops perfect for a lazy day. This is a hugely photographic building.

This monastery is very peaceful and rarely visited by tourists. It has excellent collection of art, esp. paintings and vestments. There is a room devoted to a Mexican pop singer, Mojica, who became a Franciscan monk later in his life. The chapter house has one truly excellent painting, covering the entire wall, one of the biggest paintings in town, representing... More

Like so much of the architecture in Arequipa, it's stunning, and even I, as an atheist, can have reverence for such a spot.

A beautiful church and peaceful square. Be cautious, there is a small artisan market next to the Plaza de San Francisco and it can be a bit overwhelming - as there are competing vendors amassing to take tourists dollars. Go during the day and wander around the church, venture into the artisan market and then catch and evening Pisco Sour... More

I only stopped by this church at the end of San Francisco calle. It is a typical colonial church from the 17th century with an impressive main alter and several beautiful gold-leafed side alters. The adjoining plaza was nice also.

There is a nice area surrounding the church. But the best thing is that you can take pictures inside. That is unusual for South American churches. The alter has interesting paintings above and silver on the alter. Very nice.
