Right between our visits to the archaeological parks of "Sacsayhuaman" and "Pisac", we made a refreshing and interesting stop at "Manos de la Comunidad" - a local cooperative. Upon arriving, we firstly visited its small and lovely zoo - a great opportunity to get close, touch and even feed some Andean typical animals such as "llamas", "alpacas", "vicuñas" and "guanacos"! Then, a demonstration of wool weaving by a lady dressed in typical costumes. After it, a nice store selling articles locally produced by the cooperative members. And, of course, we could not leave without some shopping bags. As any tourist! Enjoy

This combined local alpaca weaving store and live Alpaca family petting zoo was included in our small group tour from Machu Picchu. Hundreds of handmade clothing items are displayed, featuring premium Baby Alpaca fur, as well as other grades of softness. They also carry the rare and pricey Vicuna (before entering the store you can pet and feed one out back). We bought a large decorative poncho (about $190), gloves and a man's sweater. This is the real thing; but with a consumer tip: decide what you want to own. If beautiful design is your main attraction, compare carefully the market stalls in Cusco and other towns. You can buy Peruvian-made products for $40 and $400 that look and function similarly.

We visited “Manos de la comunidad”while hiking above Cusco to see archeological sites with the local tour operator ‘Llama path”. It was great to see the beautiful handy craft they produce using wool from the alpacas they breed in their farm. They were very friendly and led us through their various products of very high quality, stained with natural dies. The visit is highly recommended. It is interesting and allows you to buy the nicest craft that Peru has to offer.
