Overall the most cost effective. Efficient. Effective. Perfectly adequate. Only issue was we were not ticketed to sit together.

While the web site & ticket offices are nicer, the appearance of competing rail service looked better. Inca Rail will get you there but pay attention for hard to hear or non existent boarding announcements

The trip with Inca Rail was very nice. The food was exellent, but no bread was served. In the eventing we got a nice vegetarian menue. But for this price, you could really serve also fish or meet. The music was bad. For such a trip I expect peruana music and not two times the same jazz.......

The trains are very nice inside with big comfy seating and a really clean washroom. For the route to Machu Picchu we were surprised with an upgrade to first class which included a 3 course meal and free drinks. Taking the train to Machu Picchu is a wonderful experience. The ride is very scenic and it is not too long. But it's quite expensive. Inca Rail is the less expensive company and provides a very good service.

We took a train from Ollaytaytambo to aguas calientes. The staff was great in the train. At the office they were a bit fed up to serve clients. The train is shaking a lot. It's was nice to have windows on the top.
